An essential question is: What are the roles and responsibilities that project and program managers have with respect to global climate change? This is a challenging question. Likely, it will be an increasingly important one for the next 50 years and beyond. The question can be posed to reflect the efforts needed to address climate change and even to reverse it. Hopefully, some fraction of the damage already done can be reversed. This reframing of the question reflects the engineering roots of project execution and the post-disaster experience that has already occurred such that building back even better is an essential tenant. 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 - 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 - "𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 [..] 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀" - 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗝𝗜𝗠) This week marks the official launch of our 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 #ESG, which we entitled "𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀" [now published in the Journal of Innovation Management (#JIM)]. After an extensive call for contributions on this pressing topic, the responses we received included both research articles from academia and professionals. We aim 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 '𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻', 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, 𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀, 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝗿, 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗦𝗚 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. This Special Issue on 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 exposes how the evidence and analysis suggest that prevailing innovation paradigms are insufficient to address the urgent challenges of climate breakdown and environmental degradation. The full-volume issue https://lnkd.in/eEX2hVvk (Vol.12/No.2) provides key considerations on the topic, and its contribution (broadly speaking) is directed toward catalysing actions and transdisciplinary pathways toward a sustainable future. However, the need for a reconfigured innovation paradigm remains urgent. On behalf of my co-editors Mika Aaltonen, and Lucy Kimbell, we would like to thank the Journal of Innovation Management and Editors-in-Chief João José Pinto Ferreira and Anne-Laure Mention for hosting this special issue, as well as the support we received from the extended JIM team over the last 24 months to bring this dedicated Volume to light. A BIG THANK YOU also goes to the many unnamed reviewers who provided constructive feedback to authors with diverse backgrounds, research specialisms, and discourse. A 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅 by H.E Dr. Bibi Ameenah Gurib-Fakim delivers a meaningful stimulus to move from thought to action, which this, and future issues, aim to achieve. Over the coming weeks, we will elaborate further on the key issues #planetaryboundaries #tippingpoints #resilience #adaptation #equity #policy #interconnectedness and the contributions we received to our call for this #specialissue.
