Attending my first live rugby match sparked a profound correlation between the rugged nature of the game and the challenges encountered in life. The attributes cultivated in rugby—toughness, patience, and the ability to withstand odds—are indispensable when confronting life's adversities. Just as players navigate the unpredictable twists and turns of the rugby field, individuals confront their own set of challenges, requiring resilience and fortitude. Drawing upon the lessons gleaned from rugby, one can gracefully maneuver through life's adverse conditions, emerging strengthened and more resilient. This correlation underscores the transformative influence of sports, empowering individuals to persevere and flourish in the face of adversity, embodying the indomitable spirit of human resilience. #keepgoing#Resilience✌️✌️

The Springbok “Bomb Squad” is more than a rugby tactic; it’s a way of life. With tickets in hand for this weekend’s game at Twickenham, I’m buzzing to see how the Bomb Squad will turn up in the second half, sharing the excitement with those close to me. Since the 2023 Rugby World Cup, this tactic has become part of South African culture, embodying our unique way of tackling challenges head-on. We shouldn’t stop at rugby, though. Imagine a business “bomb squad”- a team of people from different departments, each bringing unique skills and perspectives to solve challenges. You could have your “playmaker” guiding the team’s rhythm, creatives uncovering fresh angles, and newcomers sparking new energy. Together, these qualities are what we look for to build our bomb squad. When others push back against new approaches, standing firm and showing the power of this team-based philosophy is crucial. A squad ready to rally can make all the difference. So, do you have your own “bomb squad”?

The Rapids of todays reality means we are each dealing with pressure — every day. Maybe it’s not hitting the sales target- failing to get the business case across the line— losing your job in a restructure — being the one everyone relies on to say won’t others won’t -or- do well what others can’t — maybe it’s managing your emotions arriving home after a shit day on shift - perhaps not getting enough sleep from worrying about the change rumours at work … You get the picture … because you are living it. Just like these two champions of their craft - we all can be knocked off our personal center -and- we can also learn the skills to reduce its occurrence -- frequency and impact. … if you want to learn the exact skills of how to perform under pressure — your pressures that sometimes distract you from being your best … then give us call to see how we can make that happen for you. #red2blue

Pressure can break you or build you—it’s all in how you face it. Fascinated by the way pressure shapes performance, I’ve spent years preparing to harness it. In team sports like rugby, you’re never alone in the pressure, but for legends like Valerie Adams, it’s all on you. We sat down to talk about how we approach these moments. #DealingwithPressure #Pressureisaprivilege One New Zealand

Contentment, Being-in-the-Zone & Giving Back Shaun Johnson played his last rugby league game this past weekend bringing to an end a 14-year career. He will be remembered as a really good player, who potentially did not achieve as much as he could have, but definitely as one of New Zealand’s greatest. He played some of his best footy over the last couple of seasons after returning to the team he started his career with in NZ. This season was marred by injuries, but some in the game believed that he could have gone on for another year or two. Playing his last game on Saturday, Shaun led his team in a come-from-behind win producing a “miracle pass” in the last minute of the game that led to the final scoring effort helping the team win by two points. Following is a video of his press conference after the game and there are three things that stood out for me – 1. Contentment – he spoke about being content with the game, not because of what the result was but because of how he and the team played. 2. Being-in-the-Zone – he speaks about being in the zone, “in the groove”, feeling “really good”, enjoying what he and the team were doing. He was “locked-in” to execute his role, thinking beyond the emotion of the occasion. 3. Giving Back – he expressed his intent now to give back to the sport, specifically in helping young players “develop their game”, “building a program that gives them access to knowledge that I wish I had access to”. According to me, these three represent a great state-of-mind to strive for when we call it time on our chosen vocations, no matter what they are. Thank you Shaun! #shaunjohnshon #nrl #ruglyleague #lessonsfromsport #leadership #contentment #beinginthezone #stateofflow #givingback #storytelling

It is with great pride that I inform you that we have another article accepted for publication, this time in the International Journal of Sports Science and Coaching. This study aimed to investigate and compare the external load (distance per minute, sprint distance per minute, and accelerations per minute) during Ball-in-Play and during Worst Case Scenarios in official women's Rugby Sevens matches and to compare the BIP running demands across different game phases (attack, defense, and transition). This study is among the first ones to examine the demands of different game phases, and some insights could contribute to the development of intensity metrics for rugby sevens training sessions. Through scientific evidence, we hope to contribute to a better understanding of the specific demands in women's rugby, making training programs safer and more effective. #rugby #rugbysevens #womensrugby

An invaluable few days at Rugby Australia engaging with some quality people. Rugby in Australia is poised for a transformative decade with landmark events on the horizon: the 2025 Lions Tour, the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup, and the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup. These events are set to elevate the game both domestically, in the Pacific and globally. Since Rugby Australia’s strategic reset & recharge last year, it is evident that planning and execution towards achieving their goals on and off the field are well underway. The forward-thinking concepts, initiatives, and programs within their performance and community development efforts are world-class. In one of the most competitive sporting landscapes this is a significant undertaking by one of our key Member Unions. With the continued alignment of vital stakeholders and the ongoing support of valued partners, the journey ahead for rugby in Australia and the Pacific looks both exciting and promising. #leadership #partnership #movingthegameforward World Rugby Oceania Rugby
