On Monday Caitlin Clark was been selected #1 overall in the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) Draft by the Indiana Fever. When we spoke with Caitlin at Nike Girls EYBL in 2019, we knew she was special. As she said in the interview, she just played with "swag." What we didn't anticipate was that she'd then go on to become the face of women's basketball, shattering dozens of NCAA and Big Ten records in her storied college career at Iowa - most notably the most points scored all-time by any college player (men’s or women’s) in NCAA history, with 3,951 points. And while Caitlin’s incredible scoring skills often dominated her highlights, in our interview she told us that the part of her game she took the most pride in was her passing. It’s no wonder that she also led the NCAA in assists in her last three seasons and tallied 1,144 career assists - third-most all-time. She helped elevate Women's College Basketball and we can't wait to watch her leave her mark on the WNBA as well. #WNBADraft

Tomorrow night, the NCAA Women’s March Madness FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME in Women's College Basketball is at 2:00 PM CST! But what does that have to do with Talent Management, Professional Development, Leadership Development, Hiring, and Teamwork in business? Did you know that women who played sports out-perform those at work who didn't play? Ernst Young (EY Consulting) and ESPNW in 2015 did some research. They found that girls/women who played sports are more likely to get to the C-Suite as a leader. 94% of women in the C-Suite said they played a sport. 52% of C-Suite women played a sport at the university level compared to 39% of women who rose to management levels. Athletes cited a 7% higher wage earned compared to non-athletes. Employers stated they think past student-athletes are more likely to be a team player, demonstrate a growth mindset, and build strong teams as a leader. Many of you who follow me on LinkedIn know I played 4 years of women's basketball at California State University Long Beach. My NCAA Student-Athlete experience allowed me to travel to 25 states in four years. The Long Beach State Women's @csulb Basketball team won 103 games and lost only 27. LBSU played in Madison Square Garden, went to the AIAW Elite 8 twice, the NCAA Sweet 16, and won 3 WCAA Championships. I earned my undergraduate degree while playing basketball. And...I made the NCAA Championship poster in this post! Tomorrow night once again, I will be in a group chat with my past LBSU WBB teammates to watch and do our own commentary on the game during the Championship game. #MarchMadness #Teammates 2024 is a breakthrough year for women in sports. Did you know that Iowa standout Caitlin Clark has demolished NCAA women's & men's basketball scoring records this season? Her extraordinary play has inspired sold out crowds at Iowa home, away, and NCAA March Madness games! Tomorrow night, the NCAA FINAL Championship game may break the viewership record just tied last night made when Iowa played UCONN. They had another 12.3 MM viewers! The record passed all prior NCAA WBB games ever streamed/aired. This included the NBA finals, the World Series, the Orange Bowl, the Peach Bowl, the Big Ten Championship, the Cotton Bowl, and Pac-12, ACC, and the Big-12 Championships! If you haven't already, it is time to encourage every daughter, sister, friend, niece, and granddaughter to PLAY competitive sports! Perhaps you can start by watching the game with them tomorrow? Your influence will build an even greater professional pool of competitive leader-ready women to fill tomorrow's pipeline of high potential employees! #WINLEADERSHIP #Sports2Corporate Let's tune in tomorrow, Sunday April 7, 2024 to watch the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Final game. The play begins at 2:00 PM CST. South Carolina vs. Iowa, on ESPN and ESPN+. Let's help the women break another record in viewership and celebrate the women! #PLEASE_SHARE #NCAA #WATCHPARTY

We need more women leaders in sports now more than ever. The Pipeline Project research shows why our organization needs to exist and the importance of preparing and positioning women throughout their careers in sports. Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/gNu2t5dh Their comprehensive analysis of nearly 19,000 positions (excluding coaches) across 130 FBS athletic departments reveals patterns that we as an organization are working hard to change: Only 12 women are currently sitting at the top as Athletic Directors of FBS athletics departments Despite an 80% increase in assistant AD positions and 43% growth in associate AD roles since 2015, women's representation has only grown by 6% While women comprise 64% of student-athlete services positions, they remain significantly underrepresented in areas traditionally valued for athletic director advancement (e.g., fundraising, development, facilities) A clear leaky pipeline exists in promotion and retention: While women represent 44% of people in entry-level positions in athletic departments, only 11.7% of FBS athletic departments are led by women, despite the significant expansion of leadership positions Credit: Hancock, M.G., Kopka, N., & Green, E.R. Without intending to come off as someone who constantly reminisces about the 'glory days' from high school... Watching the NCAA Women's basketball championship unfold stirs a deep recognition in me that once you're an athlete, that part of your identity never truly fades. Even though I never played a sport at the Division 1 college level, my journey as a varsity athlete in three different sports during high school has fundamentally molded my perspective and significantly impacts how I navigate my professional life. #sports #mindset #growth #marketing

The women's NCAA basketball tournament had massive growth this year and the title game outdrew the men's title game in TV ratings. One big question moving forward is how much was Caitlin Clark and how much was the growth we've been seeing in women's sports overall? It would be disingenuous not to give Clark a ton of credit for the record-setting ratings, but women's basketball was already on the rise. Whether or not next year's Final Four has similar record-setting ratings or not doesn't really matter. The floor was already being raised and television (and ticket-sellers) have a compelling product even with Caitlin Clark (and Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso) leaving for the WNBA. If Clark drew you into women's college basketball, it's time to take a minute to learn about all the great talent to come next year. The game was growing long before many started watching during the Clark era. Now it's time to understand why you should remain excited for next season. Sabreena Merchant put together an early Top 25 power ranking for the 2024-25 women's college basketball season. Dawn Staley and South Carolina are a strong bet to continue growing their dynasty, but there are a ton of great teams out there that will offer a compelling television (and in-arena) experience! Give it a read and get pumped for next year! https://lnkd.in/eVXfVqW6

Caitlin Clark scored 201 three-pointers this season, the most ever in D1 college basketball. It broke the previous record held on the men’s side by Steph Curry (162). Many of her games also smashed viewership records. The women’s national championship game had higher priced tickets and higher viewership than the men’s. The men’s first overall draft pick to the NBA last year made over $13M in his first season. What paycheck will Caitlin have to look forward to in her first season? $76,000. About the median US household income. To be fair, Caitlin IS about to get PAID. There’s reports that she’s working on an 8 figure endorsement deal with Nike. And this issue is more complex than can be explained by a single bar chart. The WNBA’s revenue is dramatically lower than the NBA’s (about 50X less). But it does beg the question why. It doesn’t have to be this way. It’s not like this in all sports and it’s much better than it used to be. Women’s viewership and revenue often beats mens in sports like tennis, soccer, and figure skating. I hope we all want to live in a world that is just. Where we’re judged by our skills, actions, effort, and performance, not on demographic qualities we can’t control. Caitlin has proven that people do want to watch and pay for women’s basketball. But now, instead of being showered with huge contracts, she is burdened with breaking through another glass ceiling to keep proving her worth on the next stage. As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often. -Jeremy #caitlinclark #wnba #salaries #paytransparency
