You can't help everyone. This is the unfortunate truth. Since I first started scouting, I wanted to respond to every situation and see if I could find an ideal club for a player or players for certain clubs. But you quickly realise that it some can be fruitless tasks - for many reasons. For players - they don't have quality videos or you don't know enough about the region that may consider them. For clubs - you can spend days finding players only for them to tell you something has changed and they no longer require that player - or they have other scouts looking and they got there first. To help you avoid or limit these issues you need to DEFINE your strategy and your specialist region. Secondly, don't deviate. If you receive a request from somewhere out of your remit, politely state this isn't your area of focus or expertise. What do you think?

Ideally in every Overseas basketball experience you’ll come away with three things: 1. Online stats 2. Film 3. Connections But sometimes that won’t be the case. So if you don’t have online stats, get film & connections. And if there’s no film - make sure you’re making connections. Just don’t come home empty-handed.

As a scout in youth football, I have had the unique opportunity to closely observe the impact of early, normal and late mature players in football. Maturity can play a significant role in the development and assessment of young talents. 🚀 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲: Young players who develop physically faster can stand out for their physical advantages. It is crucial to keep developing these players technically and tactically as well, so that their game does not rely solely on physical strength. ⏳ 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲: Most players fall within this category. Their development follows traditional growth patterns, meaning their assessment can often be based on their current skills relative to their peers. 🌱 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲: Late developers can be overlooked due to their smaller stature or less developed physical attributes in their early years. It is essential to give these players time, as they often show significant improvements as they mature physically. As scouts, it is important to understand that each player is unique and grows at their own pace. Along with Giuseppe La Rezza and Patricia Scorțe I recently completed the online FAS Video Scouting Level 1 programme for women’s football under the tutelage of Kenneth Santa. The course was very rigorous, challenging, enjoyable and worthwhile. The course is built around ‘working for’ a selected focus club through a 10 week programme. In my case this was Paris Saint Germain who play in D1 Arkema in France. We started by analysing the “style of play” and positional specific KPI’s of our focus squad and tried to identify where our squad might be improved. We then focused on the two leagues assigned to us, observing many matches and trying to find those players that would improve our squad. I was tasked with observing the NWSL in USA and the Toppserien in Norway. The course culminated in a presentation where we made the case for potential transfer targets that would improve the squad. Most players want confidence but they simply are not putting in enough practice on their own to get it. Just keep showing up for yourself. Day after day. Another season comes to an end in the Snooker world.. Some Players have now turned pro,  Some Players have had again there dreams shattered.. Some Players have seen no progress from last season.
