Integrity and trust is critical in any IT organization – it has become even more important in this new world of cybersecurity. Job hoppers are not very desirable team members. People who do nothing make no mistakes. People who do the most work are likely to make a few errors. Innovation inherently carries with it a risk of failure.

We're overlooking the human factor in cyber security. No tech can guard against human error - but honing non-technical skills can. We need a team that responds, not reacts, under pressure. Precision, critical decision-making, agility, communication, and teamwork - these are our true defences. Let's revolutionise cyber security. The time for action is now.

With experience in leading global cybersecurity initiatives, I have found that a crucial aspect of strategic planning for any CISO is the elevation of cybersecurity teams through empowerment and recognition. Drawing from years of navigating the dynamic landscape of cybersecurity, I've learned that motivation serves as the cornerstone of an effective defense strategy. By empowering teams with ongoing education and skill-building opportunities, including certifications and training to stay ahead of emerging threats, we foster a culture of continuous improvement and proactive defense. Moreover, recognizing the diligence and victories of our team members, whether it is averting attacks or implementing robust security measures, is paramount. This not only boosts morale but also cultivates a sense of ownership and commitment to safeguarding the organization. Furthermore, I recommend cultivating a unified security mindset within teams by instilling a sense of collective responsibility for cybersecurity. This can be achieved by promoting open dialogue and fostering teamwork across all levels, ensuring each member understands their vital role in protecting the organization. Lastly, prioritize the balance and support needed for peak performance in the high-pressure environment of cybersecurity. By providing resources and support for the well-being of our team members, including strategies to mitigate burnout and maintain operational readiness, we ensure sustainable success. Through implementing these recommendations, a highly motivated, effective, and resilient cybersecurity teams can be built. I am confident that by adopting these strategies, your organization can elevate its cybersecurity initiatives to new heights of success.

I did not have a typical #cybersecurity background when I joined this sector; how did I learn the ropes to speak with cyber leaders and practitioners? As someone who prides myself in “knowing my stuff”, I initially felt like a fish out of water Then I reminded myself that I had been in such situations before (by my own volition too!); having moved overseas (London, Hong Kong) and transitioned from banking to insurance to cyber. There is no easy way. As a chronic note-taker, I took copious notes when I sat through countless presentations and discussions Then I learnt to ask questions, or learnt from questions raised by others And started connecting the dots from technology to process to risk and business outcomes Over time, I made the effort to meet and learn more about the founders, leaders, innovators of the cybersecurity companies that form part of our portfolio Instead of feeling apprehensive about “not knowing enough”, I treated this as truly an opportunity to create connections and showcase the growth potential here in Singapore and APAC I am looking forward to building on these conversations when - for the first time - we will have the #ISTARIcollective altogether in #singapore in two weeks Curious to meet them too? Learn more about the founders and senior leaders who will be here: Axio Scott Kannry BlueVoyant Robert Hannigan Claroty Yaniv Vardi Ensign InfoSecurity Prevalent AI Arun Raj Sygnia Ram Elboim

Germany(BfV) and the Republic of Korea (NIS) released an excellent report on North Korean cyber threats targeting the 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬. ▶️The attacker created a malicious patch file. 💻 ▶️Based on the IOC in the report the malware first seen in VT it took place at least six months ago. 📅 ▶️At the time of the first submission to VT, only 8 AV out of 72 detected the malicious patch file 🤨 Should we rely on AV/EDR to detect malicious implants, or do we need a different technology for this? Share your thoughts in the comments (please no product endorsement) Cyber Defense is a hard challenge; we need to collaborate and share information.
