JLP40 was the culmination of 7 years of hard work, dedication, and a relentless pursuit to help transform families nationwide through our highly skilled and passionate veteran community. @senatorjacquilambie is now a part of the @veteranmentors family due to our shared values, military background, and shared passion for this country’s youth. Leadership comes in many forms, from delegating to hard work and setting an example. Jacqui’s leadership is like no other. To have one of the most popular Australian Senators spend 9 days on the program and take the washing burden off the mentors was a very surreal moment and one the team will never forget. Seventy kids’ uniforms and PT clothes washed daily, plus all 24 of the staff, meant she was up at 0530 working on the program and working well past 0100 every night washing without missing out on her picquet. When asked to abseil by a participant, even though it was clear her back was giving her misery like all us vets, she pushed through regardless. That was an experience she wasn’t going to deny this participant, regardless of any pain or discomfort. Find me one other Senator that would do this and put herself through such discomfort just to bond with the veteran community and transform the lives of children on the frontlines. Jacqui, I am honored to have served alongside you those last 9 days, and the whole crew at Veteran Mentors looks at you as a sister. The amazing reputation you have and work ethic is really second to none. A true Aussie hero. I used to mistakenly tell my students that I wanted our classroom to be a “safe space” where we could all feel comfortable being a little vulnerable and openly have difficult conversations. I argued, if we couldn’t do this at the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (AFSNCOA), where could we do it? However, I came to realize that what I actually wanted/needed was to create a “brave space.” In the realm of adult learning, a safe space forms the foundation, fostering trust and psychological safety, allowing individuals to share openly without fear of judgment. However, a brave space pushes adult learners beyond their comfort zones, encouraging them to engage in uncomfortable conversations that may challenge their perspectives. Navigating our misunderstandings, disagreements, assumptions, frustrations, friction or even conflict, is what bears the seed for generative solutions—solutions we desperately need. As the new students of Class 24C walk into Flight 2 and enter this brave space, they must accept a level of discomfort when discussing personal perspectives and experiences knowing they are safe to do so because a classroom culture of respect and civility. Fostering this type of dynamic learning environment for today’s Senior Non-commissioned Officer prepares them for the challenges they face as tomorrow’s Senior Enlisted Leader. ✈️💪🏻 #comfortablebeinguncomfortable #personalgrowth #challengeyourself #selfawareness

Some may think that a simple phrase like "Wow, I see your efforts! Keep up the good work." is just general positive conversation, but to the person it's directed towards, it could mean the world. We may never truly know what someone is going through, but we do know that our words and actions have an impact on the people around us. Words of encouragement can give people the strength to keep going towards their goals, or to help them regain their confidence when they're feeling uncertain.
