Transitioning to Midwifery Models of Care: A Global Change for Moms and Babies! At #BangaloreBirthNetwork, we’re excited to announce the launch of the World Health Organization’s new paper on the Midwifery Model of Care! This important guide shows how midwives can help improve care for mothers and their newborns around the world. The WHO believes that midwifery care is essential for better health outcomes. This model helps women have safer births and makes sure they receive personalized care. It encourages women to make choices about their care and supports natural childbirth while respecting their needs. ✨ Why Choose the Midwifery Model? 1.Puts the woman and her family first in the care process. 2.Reduces unnecessary medical procedures. 3.Offers continuous support during labor. Improves outcomes for both mothers and babies. As we move towards this recommended model, we at #BBN are dedicated to promoting midwifery care in India. Let’s work together to support healthier births and empower women in their childbirth experiences. 📢 Stay tuned for more updates on how we can help in our community! https://lnkd.in/dsAX7JpN #MidwiferyCare #BangaloreBirthNetwork #GlobalHealth #WHO #RespectfulMaternityCare #MaternalHealth #EmpowerBirth

The WHO has a new Position Paper on transitioning to Midwifery Models of Care. We are definitely soon reaching a global tipping point in the demand for evidence-based, respectful care using midwifery models of care. Even a modest 10% increase globally in Midwifery-led care could reduce maternal death by 22% and newborn deaths by 23%! One study presented in the paper release webinar also showed an improvement in APGAR scores. These models of care will usher in transformative change well beyond mortality reduction. BBN has been an early advocate for Midwifery Models of Care since 2007. Consider attending #maternitycareatthecrossroads conference Sept 19/20th in Kansas City! Why? IF YOU CARE about the maternal health crises and believe midwifery is part of the answer, we must learn from past challenges. Common characteristics of closures include: Requirement of physician collaboration for hospital privileges. Unwillingness to approve evidence based practices. Inability to argue midwifery business value. Workplace climate that does not value midwives or midwife voice. Expert faculty will speak on issues that intersect sustainability. None will be more profound than the personal stories of two midwifery legends, Rita Pixie Laubert Ledbetter and Lonnie C. Morris, each working as full scope midwives over 30 and years and forced to close their practice. 👉We are bringing the truth to why midwifery faces barriers to scaling up. And US maternity care IS AT A CROSSROAD. 👉👉If you are ready to learn and influence change, bring a team! There is NO BETTER way to learn how than midwives, physicians, nurses and administrators sitting together in a conference and leaving with an action plan! October 6-12 is #NationalMidwiferyWeek2024 National Midwifery Week was created by the American College of Nurse-Midwives to celebrate and recognize midwives and midwife-led care. “The profession of midwifery is rooted in the past but essential to the future. Scaling up midwifery could help reduce adverse health outcomes, even in resource-constrained environments such as rural communities and could be implemented with successful outcomes at any stage of a country’s transition to lower maternal and newborn mortality rates. Midwifery care can be cost-effective, affordable, and sustainable.” Learn more by visiting https://lnkd.in/gachrvy American College of Nurse-Midwives

Empowering Midwives, Empowering Women: A Game-Changer for Global Health! As a future healthcare professional, I'm driven by a passion for ensuring every mother and child receives the care they deserve. The latest WHO publication has left me inspired and motivated! Key Takeaways: • 60% fewer mothers and newborns would die if all women had access to midwifery care (4.3 million lives saved annually by 2035)¹. • Midwives don't just save lives; they provide compassionate care, leading to more positive birth experiences. • And the best part? Midwifery models are cost-effective! But there's a catch: we need 900,000 more midwives worldwide. To change this, we must: •Invest in midwifery education and training. •Support interdisciplinary teamwork. •Strengthen midwifery care in vulnerable communities. Let's work together to empower midwives and transform maternal and child health outcomes globally! 🌿 Trends in Natural Birth Methods The rise in natural birth methods reflects a growing interest in holistic, low-intervention birthing experiences. Recent research supports the benefits of natural birth, including shorter recovery periods, fewer medical interventions, and a more empowered birthing experience. As more families explore these options, the demand for midwifery care, birth centers, and doula services is also growing. #NaturalBirthMethods #PregnancyTrends #HealthcareInsights #BirthEmpowerment #NaturalChildbirth #MaternityCare

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has released the “Transitioning to Midwifery Models of Care: Global Position Paper,” a groundbreaking document that highlights the essential role of midwifery in delivering high-quality maternal and newborn health services. This position paper emphasises midwifery as a cost-effective, evidence-based strategy to improve health outcomes for women and newborns while reducing unnecessary interventions. By adopting midwifery models of care, health systems can: ✅ Optimise care for mothers and babies ✅ Foster collaborative, integrated care across healthcare professionals ✅ Strengthen health services in alignment with Universal Health Coverage The paper defines what midwifery models of care entail, outlines their guiding principles, and provides a compelling case for global adoption. Midwives are central to these models, playing a transformative role in health systems worldwide. In Australia, where maternal and newborn care is a critical priority, transitioning to midwifery-led care represents a significant opportunity to strengthen outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. What do you think about transitioning to midwifery models of care in Australia? How can we ensure their successful integration into our health systems? I’d love to hear your thoughts! #MaternalHealth #Midwifery #WHO #Australia https://lnkd.in/gadqXQgn

It is our premise at Grow Midwives that you can not piecemeal integration of midwifery with bandaid regulatory changes or experiments with payment reform. For meaningful change ALL BARRIERS must be addressed to provide midwifery-led care in childbearing populations. Most Americans in the US believe their healthcare is sub-optimal. Listening to Mothers survey's (since 2002) validates even more concern with their maternity care. In the 2018 CA study, "We asked women about their interest – should they give birth in the future – in using several types of care, and found considerable unmet needs. Proportions of women who said they would definitely want to have or would consider a midwife and also a doula far exceeded the proportions that used midwives and doulas for their recent births." Listening to Mothers IV (2025) is a nationwide survey of 3,500 individuals across the nation with 2023 births, launched in Spring 2024. Link for results when released. https://lnkd.in/gCN3wYZE Full practice authority does not solve the issues of autonomy, reimbursement parity, and fiscally sustainable practice. Perhaps we need to say this louder!!
