It's been two weeks since Lloyds Banking Group announced their wholesale investment into the second version of the Community Investment Enterprise Fund (CIEF), managed by Social Investment Scotland This could be a major turning point for our bank's often overlooked cousins, Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFIs), which have for too long gone without the coverage and support they deserve. Despite CDFIs providing only 0.5% of SME financing in 2023, they account for a significant proportion of the finance directed towards underestimated founders. This is evidence that they could be the missing piece required for ensuring founding teams from underrepresented grounds receive the funding they need when attempting to scale their businesses. Earlier this week, I released a video summarising my thoughts on the latest National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers report which highlighted just how small of a percentage of CDFIs own when it comes to SME financing. Hopefully, this changes drastically as more banks like Lloyds Banking Group follow suit and platforms like Lendoe continue to push the CDFI agenda. SBI ; Bank raised Rs. 10,000 crores today at a coupon rate of 7.36% through its sixth infrastructure bond issuance. The issue attracted overwhelming response from investors with bids in excess of Rs. 18,145 crores and was oversubscribed by around 3.6 times against the base issue size of Rs. 5,000 crores. The total number of bids received was 120 indicating wider participation with heterogeneity of bids. The investors were across provident funds, pension funds, insurance companies, mutual funds, corporates etc. The proceeds of bonds will be utilized in enhancing long term resources for funding infrastructure and affordable housing segment.

Lloyds invests £62m in CDFI fund Lloyds Banking Group has announced a ground-breaking £62 million investment in a fund designed to support Community Development Finance Institutions (#CDFIs) across the UK, marking it as the first high street bank in the country to directly invest in the sector. CDFIs, which provide credit to those unable to access it through more traditional means, will benefit from this fund aimed at bridging the lending gap for underserved customers and businesses. The NACFB Patron’s initiative comes at a time when the nonprime lending market in the UK has significantly contracted, posing challenges for those that fall outside of the appetite of mainstream lenders. Last year, the NACFB backed fellow trade body Responsible Finance’s calls for more investment in the CDFI sector from UK banks and lenders, the Association welcomes Lloyds’ move as the first high street bank to directly support the sector. https://lnkd.in/ew4d5YvQ
