I spent 5 days at MAISON&OBJET (and Chinese retailers attended too) The business slowdown often mentioned about China is a matter of industries, as the home decoration and home perfumery demand has never been stronger. And sales have never been higher 💸 Brands have 2 choices: 1. Attend trade shows in China 2. Welcome Chinese retailers in European fairs The second point is often forgotten. Why? 1. Chinese retailers do not speak Chinese ➞ You need a Chinese speaker on your booth 2. Chinese retailers are shy ➞ You need to go talk to them when they enter 3. Chinese retailers only use WeChat ➞ Your business card with your email is useless We welcomed retailers from all around China with this technique: Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Taizhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Tianjin But above all, you need a China Agent. A warm thank you to all the Baobab Collection team who always bring communicative energy and positive collaborations to this trade show, we are proud to represent them in China 🇨🇳 Now let’s talk. What is your take? Have you attended Maison & Objet this season?

🌟 Exciting News for Brands Considering the Chinese Market! 🌟 Shanghai is now offering a significant incentive of RMB 1 million (approximately EUR 130 000) to international brands opening their first store in the city. This initiative is part of the “First in Shanghai” campaign, aimed at bolstering the city’s role as a global retail hub. As a lawyer and advisor specializing in the Chinese market, I see this as a pivotal opportunity for SMEs and emerging brands to make a strategic entry into Asia. Shanghai is not only enhancing financial incentives but also streamlining the bureaucratic process—optimizing permit applications and easing customs clearances for launch events. Considering a move into Shanghai or curious about navigating these opportunities? Let’s connect and discuss how this can be part of your brand’s growth strategy in Asia. #ChinaBusiness #RetailExpansion #ShanghaiOpportunities #LegalAdvice #BrandStrategy https://lnkd.in/eE5EHb2v

Highlights from the 136th Canton Fair As a seasoned exhibitor, here’s our key summary of this year’s experience: The Consumer Electronics Hall was bustling with international buyers from Africa, India, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and South America! Most of the customers we engaged with were either e-commerce businesses or owned offline wholesale shops. The majority focused on small-quantity orders. This year, we observed a strong price sensitivity among customers, who were primarily looking for affordable yet trendy products. This raises the question for our next exhibition: should we prioritize innovations that combine affordability, unique designs, and high quality to stand out? #CantonFair #ConsumerElectronics #GlobalTrade #MarketInsights #AffordableInnovation #BusinessStrategy #CustomerFocused

Entering new markets requires a good dose of patience, resilience, perseverance, and building good and lasting relationships with stakeholders. In an increasingly competitive and selective market, it is crucial to stay focused, keep investing and have a long-term perspective. In July #PdiPigna finally entered 20 WHSmith stores in airports in Europe. This result was achieved after lengthy negotiations, thanks to the excellent relationships developed in #Singapore with the local WHS management, who advised their European counterparts to consider the brand for their stores. Takeaway #1 – Cultivating good relationships with business partners can lead to developments that were initially unimaginable. Cartiere Paolo Pigna s.p.a. finally entered the #Philippines in June with National Bookstore, and Singapore with Mustafa, the famous local department store. In this case, as well, negotiations started last year. Takeaway #2 – Building positive and fruitful business relationships stems from a mix of factors, both personal and professional. Promising without delivering can harm business deals. If brands are not able to deliver what they promise, they can affect their long-term development goals. Since August, TROIKA Germany GmbH is retailed at Mustafa Department Store in Singapore. Again, a few months were needed to gain approval, which came after they saw the successful performance of Pigna on the stationery floor. Troika has also finally landed in the Philippines, and is now retailed in a few #urbanize stores in Manila. This was possible thanks to a long negotiation started in early 2023. In early August SANDRO FERRONE finally opened its first international mono-brand outlet in #Dubai, at the Dubai Outlet Mall. This is a milestone for the brand, as it ventures outside of Europe to build its retail presence. Take Away #3 – it would be impossible to handle such lengthy discussions from Europe. It is imperative to have a team on the ground, that can follow up and interact with the local partners, to ensure that negotiations are on-going and partners do not get cold feet. The participation of EMU Group S.p.A. at Design #Shanghai, after 9 months from signing a distribution agreement with a local partner, has led to several business developments that are now being followed up and finalised by our China team. Take Away #4 – It is crucial to be patient and trust the partner with their entry strategy. Brands sometimes are in urge to secure business results, giving the impression of being desperate, and therefore unreliable. After two years of discussions with a local partner in #Ningbo, Lladró, S.A. has finally finalised an agreement to open a monobrand store in a prestigious furniture shopping mall. Take Away #5 – Never give up if negotations get slow and endless. Sometimes, it is not about a lack of interest in the brand. The distributor may simply need time and the right opportunity to finalise the agreement. Texere Advisors
