The problem of Medical Kidnappings is not specific to Canada only. US has the same issue - SICK children get misdiagnosed and as victims of abuse by doctors contracted by CAS/CPS and as a result, apprehended and their loving parents who are harassed for months to years until the case goes to trial where they are able to provide evidence of their children's medical issues - despite CAS's and their doctors' desparate appempts to prevent them from accessing the child's medical records and obtaining second medical opinions from experts in the relevant fields. Watch a US documentary Helps that Harms on this topic: https://lnkd.in/gNVC62y9 Watch CTV W5's Dubious Diagnosis for examples from Ontario. Today, the Attorney General John Quigley and I announced the introduction of the Evidence Bill 2024 into State Parliament. As Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister, I am proud that the Cook Government is introducing this crucial reform to Parliament. The reforms will ensure that victim-survivors of family and domestic violence are supported through the court process. As part of this Bill, audio and/or visual statements recorded at the scene of the event or shortly after will be admissible as a complainant's evidence in chief. This will reduce the need for victim-survivors to retell their stories - something that can be deeply challenging and retraumatising. These reforms will also support family violence and child sexual abuse victim-survivors by increasing the opportunity for them to access other witness assistance measures, such as a support person or support animal. This is another practical action that our Government is taking to support victim-survivors. We will continue to put the safety of victim-survivors first.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month, an opportunity to update your knowledge about alcohol addiction/alcohol use disorder (AUD) and the adverse impact of alcohol misuse on health and society. Someone far wiser than I once said that we cannot shame ourselves into change, we can only love ourselves into evolution. The more we talk about addiction and mental health as a society and normalize these conversations, the more we can encourage people to reach out when they need help. All of us know someone who struggles with addiction. If we are LinkedIn colleagues - that means YOU know someone who struggles with addiction. I will be two years sober on May 20th. If you are struggling today, the best advise I can give is to please reach out to someone. You are seen, and you are heard. Lean on others to support you. Ask for help. Be vulnerable. And no matter what - just try not to drink. This is easier said than done for those of us who struggle with addiction. But if you are ready and willing to do the work, you don't ever have to drink again if you don't want to. The first step is simply to say "I need help. I can't do this alone." #alcoholawarenessmonth #recovery #community

📊 According to the data of the U.S. National Council on ageing, in almost 60% of elder abuse and neglect incidents, the perpetrator is a family member. Due to the victim's relation with the perpetrator, they might be reluctant to report the abuse and restorative justice interventions can be powerful. 📑 Read the article by Olga Kiseleva on the EFRJ blog! #efrj #efrj2024 #olgakiseleva #violenceagainstelderly #elderlyabuse
