Melbourne's MPavilion has played host to numerous 'starchitects' over the past decade, and this year is no exception, with Japan's Tadao Ando recently completing the 10th MPavilion. Bringing his distinctive style to Queen Victoria Gardens, this Summer's MPavilion showcases beautifully constructed concrete, pure geometries, and water. These elements are commonly found throughout Ando's work globally, including the Chichu Art Museum, the Church on the Water, and Museum SAN, to name a few. Ando possesses a unique ability to maintain a consistent style and objective in his designs — emphasizing the natural environment — regardless of the context and typology. With the MPavilion being one of his smaller-scale projects, it's interesting to experience how these ideas are scaled down and still communicated successfully. The raw materiality and reflective water enhance and spotlight the natural surroundings of the gardens, with strategically limited yet highly considered viewpoints outward towards the foliage and sky. Paired with the simple form, visitors experience a sense of emptiness and silence, highlighting the interplay of light and wind and creating a holistic and peaceful ambiance. This year's MPavilion presents a stark contrast to the previous one — a bright orange and highly textured canopy designed by All(zone). Both pavilions share a focus on filtering light into the space, but each takes a distinct approach to achieve this goal. Which one do you prefer? The Elusive Prosperity! Ostend, Belgium, has undergone a remarkable architectural transformation from 1899 to today, shaped by modernization and shifting urban priorities. Known in 1899 as the “Queen of the Belgian Sea-Side Resorts,” Ostend was a prominent destination for the European elite. Its Belle Époque architecture, with grand facades and intricate detailing, symbolized the prosperity and culture of the time. Opulent hotels, casinos, and promenades lined its coast, reflecting a bygone era of luxury and sophistication. Today, the contrast in architecture speaks volumes about urban evolution. As Ostend adapted to meet contemporary needs, much of its architectural heritage gave way to modern, streamlined structures. This transition illustrates a broader pattern seen worldwide: historic cities often face a complex balance between preserving their character and adapting for the future. While modernization brings functionality and efficiency, it sometimes erases the architectural heritage that once defined a place. #Ostend #Belgium #UrbanEvolution #ArchitecturalHeritage #Modernization #BelleÉpoque #HistoricalCities #Ostend #ArchitectureTransformation #CulturalShift #Cityscape #Classical #Conserve #Preserve #culture #Classicalarchitecture

WMF will maintain the historical streetscape look of the current building while completely renovating the interior in concert with well-known exhibit designers, Jack Rouse & Associates (JRA). The new Museum design will complement the building’s original architecture while making a vibrant statement that embraces their new focus on STEAM. The design will also incorporate nearly 4,000 square feet of garden space between their building and the Erie Art Museum. 💡The "House of the Good Shepherd" in Bratislava is an excellent example of Rococo architecture.💡 In the 18th century, when this house was built, Bratislava (then still Prešporok) was a densely built-up city, especially in the area under the castle. Urban land was very expensive and limited in this area, so every bit of available space had to be used efficiently. Some cities, including Bratislava, had rules and taxes that were calculated according to the width of the facade facing the street. Therefore, houses were built as close as possible to each other and often had very narrow floor plans to fit between existing buildings. Building narrow houses was more advantageous from a tax point of view, and this kind of thinking was common in many European cities at the time. This house is interesting because it reflects the mentality and needs of people in the past. People had to be creative in how to make efficient use of limited urban land if they wanted to live in a given location. The house is a living example of how architecture can respond to the economic and practical challenges of its time, while maintaining aesthetic value and historical significance. Its importance lies mainly in its architectural value, because it is one of the best preserved Rococo buildings not only in Bratislava, but in the whole of Central Europe. However, it became significant only later, thanks to its uniqueness and preservation, which makes it a symbol of the old castle of Bratislava. And one more thing... The name "House of the Good Shepherd" was not given by chance, but thanks to the statue on its facade (shepherd carrying a sheep) that became a characteristic feature of this building. Although the house was originally called something else, the statue of the Good Shepherd symbolically "baptized" it, and it is today known by this name among locals and tourists alike. . . . . . #historicarchitecture #urbanplanning #18thcentury #europeanarchitecture #narrowhouses #preservation #heritage #history #realestate #Bratislava

🌆👽 A Glimpse of Earth... or an Alien Invasion? 👽🌆 I recently came across an image of a street in Macau, and the towering Grand Lisboa Casino in the background gave me a jolt of sci-fi vibes! 🚀✨ Imagine walking down a quiet street, and suddenly, this colossal, otherworldly structure looms over you, its futuristic design making it look as though an alien mothership has descended upon Earth. 🛸🌍 🔸 The Grand Lisboa’s golden spires and bold, shimmering facade seem almost like a beacon from another dimension, dwarfing the street below and creating a surreal contrast with the old-world charm of Macau’s narrow streets. 🏙️💫 🔸 It's a mix of past and future, tradition and technology—almost as if an extraterrestrial presence is about to announce itself, taking over the skyline. 👽✨ The towering structure appears to demand attention, much like the dramatic scenes we see in alien invasion movies! 💡 Architectural Impact: This photo is a powerful reminder of how design can evoke emotion, imagination, and even a sense of mystery. The ability of architecture to shape how we feel—whether through awe or intrigue—shows the universal language of structure and space. 🏗️🎨 Isn't it amazing how certain buildings can make you feel like you're in a different world? 🌍🤔 #Macau #Architecture #DesignInspiration #FuturisticDesign #GrandLisboa #AlienVibes
