I am thrilled and deeply honoured to share that Temasek Trust officially announced the launch of TT Foundation Advisors, our #philanthropy advisory and management services arm, today.
We see a significant opportunity to drive meaningful impact in Asia, with a fast-growing need for trusted philanthropy advisory and management services. Asian millennials are expected to hold over a third of global wealth by 2030. There is a shift from cheque book to catalytic philanthropy, with a greater emphasis on impact measurement and management, and more outcomes-driven, evidence-based giving. Singapore is fast becoming a regional philanthropic hub, with over 1,400 Single Family Offices and 50% of Southeast Asia’s top family businesses. Private banks planning to offer DAF and philanthropy advisory services may also appoint an independent and trusted partner to provide solutions for their valued clients.
TT Foundation Advisors will enhance access to philanthropy advisory and management services for philanthropic foundations, family offices, business corporations, philanthropists, and charities across Asia – enabling the professionalisation of giving, and the building of a vibrant and impactful regional philanthropic ecosystem.
My team and I at TT Foundation Advisors will leverage Temasek Trust’s insights, capabilities, and resources, as well as the expertise and evidence-based interventions across the wider philanthropic ecosystem, and partner with our clients to deliver strategic and impactful solutions that resonate with their passions, values, and the communities they care deeply about.

‘What Makes a Great Charity’? 😊 🏆📢
Here is what Larry Fingleson of The Edward Alexander Foundation had to say;
My instinctive response to this question is – The same thing that makes a great company. At the core – both companies and charities are made up of people that come together under a structure to achieve an outcome. Companies are governed by ASIC, Charities by the ACNC – in essence one has shareholders and can distribute profit and the other can still make profit but must use it for the benefit of society.
Great Charities, and Great Companies have:
Absolute Clarity of Purpose : They know why they exist and who the serve
Great Governance : Made up of capable and respectable Board and
Audacious Leadership: CEO who values advocacy, accountability (efficacy) and relationship building – They are well run.
A clear, understandable and executable Strategic Plan to achieve its purpose
Resources to underpin and execute the plan : Having capacity and capability are 2 critical elements
Insight: they deeply understand the ecosystem and their place and role within it.
Collaborative intent: partnership orientation to achieve scale and depth. Don't have to do everything themselves.
Great Storytellers: people that can sell Goosebumps to engage and maintain relationships to provide the required capital to achieve outcomes.
Great cultures: a place that people want to be connected to.
Sustainability or a clear pathway: People want to know the charity will be around until they have fulfilled their purpose.
Great charities like great companies have great people doing great things for the benefit of others.

In a world where authenticity matters, businesses thrive on trust and purpose. Acts of selflessness and philanthropy can spark movements that inspire hope, love, and positive change. Some businesses and personal brands now channel the power of charitable initiatives into creating sustainable brands and heroes that symbolize a force for good.
In Nigeria, this approach can foster a culture of trust, kindness and drive meaningful growth. Businesses can leverage growth marketing and sales strategies to amplify impactful initiatives, build super brands, and celebrate heroes who embody a brighter future. By this, they can create a ripple effect of inspiration and transformation.

Women-owned businesses are an economic powerhouse.
They grow at more than twice the rate of other companies, contribute nearly $3 trillion to the economy, and support 23 million jobs. We need to continue to champion and invest in the incredible potential of women leaders driving innovation and growth worldwide. As you consider your philanthropic gifting this holiday season, don't forget to include Springboard Enterprises (a 503c).

Musgrave NI is delighted to renew its partnership with Young Enterprise NI, Northern Ireland’s leading business education charity.
Working with YENI in an ESG capacity, Musgrave has pledged another £10,000 to support the charity’s programmes and initiatives aimed at enabling 1,200 young people to experience and learn the world of business. The collaboration focuses on empowering young people to become responsible and sustainable business leaders of the future.
Launching the partnership last year, Musgrave NI Managing Director Trevor Magill visited Belfast Boys Model School to meet GSCE hospitality students and talk to them about the food industry, supply chain and Musgrave’s commitment to supporting local.

We often talk to fundraisers who are struggling to get organisational buy-in to their efforts. If a fundraiser suggests to the leadership team to create a culture of fundraising - this does not or should not mean they want everyone to down their tools and own day jobs to get out shaking buckets (flag days excluded).
What they need is organisational support to:
1. Share stories of impact, of every day impacts in lives
2. Know what is going on in the fundraising team and share it (verbally and socially)
3. Find ways to connect in with the fundraising team and goals (champion, connect, invite others)
4. Promote regular support to charities
5. Learn about the multi-faceted multi-channel communications and fundraising programme and what it really is all about.
6. Join a panel to come to donor thank you events, or agree to call and thank a donor.
Creating a culture of fundraising extends beyond individual efforts—it's about collective support and engagement within your organisation. By sharing stories of impact, staying informed, and actively participating, every team member plays a crucial role.
Talk to our team about our consultancy services for meaningful culture change.

A thought-provoking perspective and discussion tonight about the challenges of the charity sector from Paul Streets and Sarah Vibert and Alex Skailes at Bayes Business School CCE , with many leaders across the sector joining in.
For the last decade I have been inspired by Paul’s and Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales leadership and support of women’s charities and tackling #vawg - they are still one of the very few to champion this often ignored #socialjustice issue and they have made real change possible.
I am also privileged to have graduated from Bayes Centre for Charity Effectiveness (CCE) and consider their contribution to the charity sector as invaluable.
Tonight however I was aware of
- being possibly the only leader /ceo attending from smaller charities like mine and specifically from the women’s sector
- those attending were mostly from large household name charities with clear links to key players in the sector like Bayes and NCVO that I know others in the sector don’t have.
Whilst we debated ideas about
- how “small charities are vital”
- “the importance of funding systems change rather than service delivery”, and
- “charities should turn down statutory funding and stay independent”,
the voice of those smaller organisations was not heard tonight - I am sorry to say I also stayed silent…
I was instead left thinking that the leaders of these charities >£20m are setting the sector and even state agenda (only 2 charities in the whole women’s sector are >£10m). Yet large charities represent <1% of the whole sector…
There is therefore a need to reflect on
- the whole sector s approach to meaningful #inclusivity (as Sarah said at the end) of all charities
- the role of larger charities and the power structures they are part of that give them disproportionate influence and resources (as Paul said) and as a direct result their impact on key societal issues that they do not represent, like #genderequality and #racism that affects the whole society, as they focus on their own priorities.
- the #funders’ role and impact on society when they decide not to support service delivery (the main focus of those <£10m) when it is in fact the core for both practice-based evidence and services/ models innovation that are the very basis for systems change /leadership that they are more focused on.
Meaningful engagement of #diverse voices and #inclusion of the whole sector remains a challenge, as the third sector attempts to create a fairer society
