Ravi, a makhana farmer from Bihar, used to sell his produce for only ₹800 per kg to local traders, while the same makhana was sold for ₹1,400-2,000 per kg in urban markets, depending on the quality. This price gap, caused by middlemen and fragmented supply chains, left Ravi with minimal profits despite the growing demand for his produce. The Problem: Farmers like Ravi face difficulties accessing larger markets and receiving fair prices. As a result, their earnings remain low, even when consumers pay premium rates in cities. How Bargee Farms Solved It: Bargee Farms connected Ravi directly to buyers in urban areas, where demand for premium makhana is high. Through our streamlined supply chain, Ravi now sells his produce for ₹1,200-1,600 per kg, depending on quality—significantly boosting his income. Results: Ravi’s earnings have increased by up to 50%, allowing him to improve his farming practices and reinvest in his business. With more farmers joining the Bargee Farms network, we're ensuring fair market access and better livelihoods for local communities. At Bargee Farms, we’re transforming agriculture one farmer at a time—bridging the gap between rural farms and urban markets for a sustainable future. This updated caption reflects the current market conditions and shows a more realistic and impactful improvement in the farmer's income. #bargeefarms #starupindia #starupbihar #biharagriculture #superfoods

Diamonds for farmers. Yes… Black diamonds. Yes they may call it black, but the colour is white and it reflects prosperity. Another example of how technology can revolutionise farming and with that the fates of farmers.
90% of world’s Makhana comes from Bihar. They call it Black Diamond. For Gen Z, Makhana is the new popcorn! They call it ‘Plant Pop'. Earlier fishermen used to dive deep into muddy ponds between 8ft -12ft to harvest it. But thanks to Dr. Manoj Kumar, a visionary senior scientist from the National Research Centre for Makhana (NRCM), that taxing work is a thing of the past. Dr. Kumar's decade-long efforts simplified the growing process, making it straightforward like any other land crop. Now, with just one foot of water, farmers can grow makhana with ease. His innovation didn’t stop there. He tackled the constant threat of floods by introducing net fencing around the lotus fields. Today, farmers in low-lying areas that once cultivated rice have filled their fields with lotus plants. They have tripled their income to ₹1.10 Lakh/hectare. What about the washing, roasting and malleting process? Entrepreneurs and Narsimha Reddy Engineering College (NRCM) teamed up to make production smoother than ever. The Bihar government also stepped in to ensure the best prices for their high-quality produce. Now, Mithila Makhana proudly carries a GI tag. Bihar leads the world in foxnut production, thanks to the perfect blend of technology, innovation and state support. P.S: Similar to Bihar, marginal farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Madhya Pradesh are seeking timely and affordable credit on our P2P platform Rang De If you relate to their story, I invite you to invest in them. Punjab Farmers Vs Maharashtra's While Punjab farmers are busy blocking roads and rail to demand more MSP sops from the government, Maharashtra's tech savvy farmers are laughing their way to the bank. A report in Livemint on the the state's grape farmers paints a fascinating picture about how Nasik district has appeared in the world grape production map: "Table grape growers are far more affluent than the average Indian farmer. For instance, in a good crop year, when adverse weather or market conditions do not play spoilsport, Boraste earns anywhere between ₹25-30 lakh, after paying for cultivation costs. That’s about 16 times the annual average income of a farm household in India...Grapes are a case study for India on how to take a crop, use possible export opportunities, and lift a whole community economically, said Ramesh Ramachandran, CEO of Mahindra Agri Solutions Limited..." Nasik's farmers, already the country's main growers of tomato and onions, are now thinking of branching out to pomegranate, guavas and dragon fruit. #Punjab #Maharashtra #Nasik #Grapes

Mithila region in Bihar accounts for approximately 90% of global production of Makhana, also known as #foxnut, a highly nutritious aquatic crop. The National Research Centre of Makhana (#NRCM) focuses on the conservation, research, and development of Makhana, Its mandate has now been expanded to include other aquatic crops, including fish. The government has awarded the Geographic Indication (GI) tag to #MithilaMakhana, making it the 15th GI tagged commodity in Bihar and the 5th agricultural product in the state to receive this recognition. #GITag enhances the visibility and market value of the product. In recognition of its outstanding implementation of the One District One Product scheme (#ODOP) for Makhana, Darbhanga district was awarded the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in 2021. Additionally, new varieties of Makhana seeds have been notified under the Seed Act in the Gazette of India, enabling their sale for agricultural purposes. These initiatives aim to ensure that growers receive maximum remuneration for their premium produce. www.samvawfoundation.org Poverty to Prosperity

Upon reading Smita Ram's post from Rang De, several points resonated with me, particularly the significance of #Bihar's contribution, the importance of Makhana as a staple food during my decade-long relocation to #Karnataka, its health benefits touted by Suphala Care, and how technological advancements in #Science has improved the livelihoods of Makhana growers and substantially increased revenue. #GoI is doing awesome.

My Strategic partner Ashish Banerjee and I went to Malihabad last Sunday to connect with farmers, understand their problems, and help them with the best market linkage. We have started getting mangoes on commission, and every day we are receiving a minimum of one truckload. Our goal is to help farmers become profitable, as farming is the primary occupation in our country. If the farmers in our country start earning higher incomes, it will lead to overall national growth. Ashish Banerjee and I are striving to make a positive impact on the lives of these farmers. Additionally, we aim to: 1. Build long-term relationships with farmers, ensuring trust and reliability. 2. Educate farmers on best agricultural practices to improve yield and quality. 3. Create a sustainable supply chain that benefits both farmers and consumers. 4. Advocate for policies that support farmers' interests and address their challenges. 5. Monitor market trends to provide farmers with the best possible advice and opportunities. 6. Promote the importance of agriculture in our economy and its role in food security. By addressing these aspects, we hope to make a meaningful difference in the agricultural sector and contribute to the prosperity of our country. #SRT #Mandi #Fruit #B2b #Quality #Farmers #SupplyChain #Azadpur

From a small farmer in #Nashik #Maharashtra to leading a ₹1500 cr farmer producer company, Vilas Shinde’s journey with Sahyadri Farms is nothing short of inspiring. Vilas grew up seeing #farmers struggling due to middlemen and unfair prices. They could barely make ends meet despite their hard work. He decided to change the game. In 2004 he made his first attempt by getting together with 12 farmers. By 2010, they geared up to export their first big order of grapes to #TheNetherlands. But, they ended up with a loss of over ₹6 crores. Despite losing it all, he didn’t give up and covered farmers' losses on his own. Today, Sahyadri Farms is India’s largest farmer-producer company. 24000+ farmers are part of this movement, producing export-quality fruits like grapes, pomegranates, and mangoes, along with dry-fruits and other products. But it wasn’t just about revenue—it was about dignity and #empowerment. Vilas built a model where #farmers not only grow but also own the entire supply chain, earning fair prices and securing their futures. From humble beginnings to ₹1,500 crore in revenue, Sahyadri is proof that one vision, fueled by passion and hard work, can transform lives and inspire a nation. A farmer producer company (#FPC) is a company that’s owned and managed by farmer members. SAHYADRI FARMS POST HARVEST CARE LTD Video created by: Srishti Kukreja and Fehmi Mohammed
