https://lnkd.in/gKe6W2B2 Victoria Legal Aid is proud to have achieved our equitable briefing target of 50% of in-house briefing fees going to women counsel in 2023-24. We also achieved a 3% increase in panel practitioner briefing fees paid to women counsel. Whilst this may seem like a small increase, it equates to $1 million more in fees paid to women counsel in 2023-24, compared to 2022-23. The launch of our Equity and Diversity List earlier this year has also been a positive step forward, with more than 70 barristers already signed up. This list is a tool that can be used by both our in-house lawyers and panel practitioners to find counsel to brief. Read more about our equitable briefing targets and achievements. BEING A FEMALE LAWYER 👍Before I tell you my story, like this post if you are interested in posts about being a female lawyer. By giving this feedback, I can tailor my posts to what's relevant to you. 🤷🏻♀️I wish being a female lawyer didn't impact so many of my legal career decisions. But I'd be lying if I said it didn't. 🟢My decision to shift from being a construction lawyer to being an employment lawyer: a big part of this decision was being tired of dealing with misogyny in the construction industry and with condescending male opposing counsel. 🟢My decision to leave a traditional law firm environment and start my own firm: a big part of this decision was needing more flexibility and freedom in my schedule once I became a mom. 🟢Yes, the legal industry has gotten better for women. 🟢Yes, there is still MUCH more work to do. 🟢This is a big part of why I started mentoring women in law. 🟢We need the help to stay in the legal industry. 🟢If you need mentoring support, please reach out to me.
