Today, I stood in support of Marlow Film Studios at the Strategic Sites Committee at Buckinghamshire Council, advocating for a project that holds immense promise for our youth. It was disheartening to see the older generation overlook the struggles and crises faced by young people—a demographic that is not just the future but the vibrant present of our society. As an academic in Creative Industries at Buckinghamshire New University and a Board of Trustee member of Young Creative Bucks CEP, I work closely with young individuals. Our collective anticipation for the job creation and opportunities that Marlow Film Studios could usher in was palpable. Yet, the decision by some councillors to sideline the needs of our youth, favoring short-term political maneuvers over long-term societal benefits, was a stark reminder of the challenges we face. Despite this, we must channel our disappointment into a renewed commitment to advocate for initiatives that empower our young people. The setback we’ve encountered is not the end of the road but a call to action. It underscores the importance of active civic engagement among our youth. Now, more than ever, it is crucial for young people to exercise their right to vote in the next general election. It’s time to elect councillors and a party that genuinely supports them with concrete plans, not empty promises. This journey is far from over. Let’s harness our collective voice to shape a future that reflects our values and aspirations. Together, we can turn this moment of adversity into a stepping stone for progress. The power lies in our hands, and our votes, to create the change we wish to see. OPPENWINNER Oppenheimer clearly won the Barbenheimer battle at the 96th Oscars with seven statuettes. It is obviously a question of what kind of guidelines the award still provides these days - in any case, fortunately, we do not deal with film aesthetics but with financial matters. The attached figure (Information is Beautiful) about the profitability of the 2023 films and the IMDb rating (the closing date is November 2023) may be exciting in this context. Of course, if someone – like with the Oscars - is guided by IMDb. The creator classified a given film as recommended for viewing from a grade of 7 (X-axis), and the box office revenue/budget indicator (Y-axis) illustrated profitability. Oppenheimer does well in this, although among the big films, Barbie and Super Mario are on top in terms of revenues, and it is the last Spider-Man film in terms of ratings.
