Look, before you go and hire a social media person to help with your marketing efforts... There's a few things you need to consider to make sure you're hiring the right one. 1. What EXACTLY are you looking to get out of this position? 2. What are you tasking them to do? 3. Are they actually qualified? Or are they just telling you that they know how to run social media? 4. You might actually be looking for another position but not sure what to call it. For example, if you're looking to get more views and increase your reach, you might actually not be looking for a social media person, you might in fact be looking for a video editor. Not all social media managers understand video and storytelling. Not all social media people understand design and branding. The moral of the story is KNOW what exactly you are looking for. As a PR professional, I'm really struggling with the constant interference from marketing teams who don't understand media or PR but still insist on making excessive changes to article drafts. 🤦♀️ I often work with editors who have put together solid content, but then I’m asked to make multiple changes based on the marketing team's personal beliefs and strategies — even though they don't write the content themselves. They don't seem to grasp the fundamentals of PR, and it's frustrating to watch them make edits that don’t align with best practices or the voice of the article. Has anyone else faced similar issues when collaborating with integrated marketing teams? How do you manage these situations and ensure that the integrity of your PR content is maintained? A Social Media manager IS NOT the same as a Content Manager. A Content Manager DOES NOT manage your social communities. A Content Manager DOES NOT make your graphics.
