This tendency and emergent is the most pernicious threat to democracy our Chain of Command Good ordervand dicipline.

My thoughts on conscription. Would you rather have an armed force of highly motivated, professional service personnel capable of war fighting anywhere around the world or A conscript force where discipline has dropped and when you do get into a war fighting situation it becomes a protracted drawn out affair with mass casualties and a severe drop in initiative and motivation to fight. Did conscripts help the Argentines? The us military in Vietnam? or the soviets in Afghanistan? The Iraqis in both 1990-1991and 2003? Like I have said before conscription works on old sitcoms with blaring sgt majors. However modern conflicts have shown not in the reality of modern warfare either conventional or counter insurgencies.

Let's understand why China needs to modernize its military to match that of the United States. The USA is a palpable military threat to China. For years, it interfered in the China-Taiwan conflict which is China's domestic matter. For years, it sold arms to Taiwan. It also sent Congressional delegations to Taiwan more recently. For years, it conducted naval exercises in or around Chinese waters. It created military pacts against China called AUKUS and the Quad Alliance. And now it's adding more bases to the Philippines in direct geographical opposition to Taiwan. How stupid would it be for China to leave itself defenceless against the United States?

As elevated as this classic speech sounds, there is within it a fundamental telltale flaw. It is not the premise that it starts with, the patently false axiom that "we all want to help one another." The deeper flaw is much more subtle, much more fundamental, and occurs 3rd way in. The passing assertion that greed is the original sin, the cause of hate. Even as far back as Chaplin the seed of Marxism had embedded itself in Hollywood's secular materialistic theology. Sentiments cannot save us from the root of all evil, which isn't money. Truth be told hate is its own cause. Manifesting as resentment it requires no antecedent. Hate can exist in the hearts of men all by itself. This is the fundamental original evil, from which sprang the sin that crouched at Cain's door. If we ever come to understand evil's fullest internal dimension, we'll have to accept that there is no financial fix for it. We cannot donate this evil into non-existence. (I do agree with the Chaplin quote though, one isn't required to be a Jew to be anti Hamas.)

Although China’s ambition to gain control of Taiwan is clear, doing so through force would prove enormously difficult and costly. China’s military, the People’s Liberation Army, has increased the scale and sophistication of its military drills around Taiwan in recent years, honing its combat capabilities. It is worth listening to this interview with NATO’s top military officer, Admiral Rob Bauer, who says China will be weaponizing economic dependencies in the same way Russia did with energy within the next 5-10 years. Bauer makes clear that this is a problem for governments but also for companies, which - for their own good - will have to focus much more on resilience and less singularly on short-term profits.
