🎈Events are all about finding the right balance between excitement and calmer experiences that bring aliveness and meaning to those involved. Far too often, we focus only on the exciting parts of the event and overdo it to the point that it exhausts the guests or even diminishes its value. Volunteering for years at a Steiner school in London taught me that life is a constant flow of going outwards and inwards. Activities that create excitement are followed by calming, inner-looking actions. It’s cyclical. It’s natural. It’s wholesome. It’s meaningful. I believe event planning should follow nature’s laws. I get it that it is hard when we go so much against the natural flow. It’s just as hard as getting the balance right when it comes to raising a teen. It comes with many trials and tribulations. But gosh, it’s worth all the pain and sweat. #eventplanningservices #eventorganiser #cyclicalbeings

🌟🌟 Volunteer Spotlight 🌟🌟 This month our volunteer spotlight is Luke Hopkins who joined the Dust Project team trip to Sri Lanka in September 2023 with Hiscox. Luke was a lively addition to the Hiscox team and was always full of positive energy and enthusiasm, even early in the morning! Here’s what he had to say about his experience of volunteering with The Dust Project. 1. In two to three sentences, please tell us about your trip Some of my colleagues and I had an awesome time out in Sri Lanka where we helped with the build of a school and a house. The area had lacked investment so our help was especially important and made a visible difference to the community. 2. What was your favourite part of the trip? The best part was being part of the school opening ceremony as we got to see how excited the local community was, it was truly so heartwarming. 3. What was the best food you ate in Sri Lanka? I thoroughly enjoyed a place called Cosy’s, we all shared the amazing food and it was a great way to taste a bit of everything, such a great way to unwind after a hard day on site! 4. Would you consider coming on another team trip in the future? If I was offered the opportunity to go back, I would jump at it so quickly! I would never be able to say no to going back. 5. If you could give 1 piece of advice to anyone thinking about coming on a team trip, what would it be? One piece of advice I would give is to try everything, whether that be the food, the jobs on site, or games with the children, just try it all!

Among the many benefits of volunteering in our communities: - Working together with other community members. During each encounter, a group of strangers gathers and is led by permanent staff to accomplish something. The group of strangers delegates tasks among themselves (sometimes without even speaking). We learn who is good at detailed and meticulous work, who surveys the area and fills in gaps, and who prefers to do more of the heavy lifting. Strangers become a team in figuring out how to most efficiently and effectively divide a large amount of labor among them. - Learning a new skill. I work in healthcare. Yesterday, I learned to put together beds. Previously, I've learned to gut and rehabilitate houses. - Learning about a new sector of society. I work in healthcare. Through volunteering, this year alone, I've been involved in food distribution, housing individuals and families who are unsheltered, an international gathering of tribes, a human rights vigil, and providing food to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. - Fulfilling a need. Often volunteers are able to quickly accomplish meticulous and repetitive work that takes permanent staff away from more important work. - Get us outside of ourselves. There have been times when I've been too stuck in my head and sorting through donated produce at the food bank or talking to the retired person next to me while screwing bolts to a bed post helped me zoom out to see that I am part of something greater than myself. There is a privilege to volunteering. It takes time and it's unpaid labor. A retired woman told me yesterday how much she loves volunteering. "I don't have money. But I have time." In Albuquerque, many of the people I volunteer with are in high school or are retired. This means I get to learn about the lives of people who've lived a lot of life, and to also learn about what it's like to be a young person today. The City of Albuquerque makes volunteering easy through their website OneABQ. https://lnkd.in/gvR97SUN At a time when our communities feel polarized, when many people feel lonely and isolated, coming together to build something or accomplish a task in service to our communities can help bridge gaps and create a sense of common purpose over shared values.

Last call for sponsorship!! We’re now at the end of the Future Steps initiative but the fundraising link is still open for another few weeks – if you can share any pennies to support the fab work of the Prince’s Trust then please do so via this link: https://lnkd.in/gbrW7AaD. Thanks to all that have sponsored me so far! I managed to complete the task, covering 296,256 steps in the month of February (just over 210km). I now need a new pair of trainers and some new knees. My son still beats me at ParkRun but he’s no longer able to lap me, which he’s most disappointed about! I’ve raised £246 so far and would love to round this up to £300 before the fundraising window is closed. There’s a quick summary below of what your donations can achieve - every penny counts! * Money raised will go towards vital youth programmes including training, education and boosting confidence. * £5 could pay towards an English qualification for one young person, unlocking unlimited potential. * £10 could provide a young person with an employability mentor, empowering them to access life changing career opportunities. * £20 could give two young people the chance to speak to our helpline and get critical advice they need in a time of real uncertainty. * £30 could provide a young person with the vital gift of a mentor to provide guidance and support during this challenging time. * £55 could give a young person a face-to-face hour-long session with a youth worker building their confidence, resilience, and motivation during this challenging time. Many thanks, David #capgemini #futuresteps

Happy June and happy #StrategySaturday!! Today we're talking about some of our favorite strategies: the types that save money!! Yesterday we posted on some other social platforms about our planned family day at SeaWorld San Diego, which is a place that we visit pretty frequently. And because we go there quite often, we elected to get season passes this year and it has been a massive savings for us. As a result, between the tickets, parking, and discounts on meals and merchandise, we've easily saved well over $1,000 over the past 8 months! Utilizing packages like this is a great way to save money if you were going to be making the purchase anyway. And once you have passes like this, it can help save further by providing a (relatively) low-cost option if you can't find something to entertain the kiddos on days off. Because... it's already been paid for, right? 🤔 Do you utilize any similar passes to save 💰?? Let us know in the comments! #SeaWorld #MoneySavingTips #Strategy #Planning #Family
