The BGCLAH has created a Workforce Development Program for students who are opting out of college to enter the workforce. This program aims to introduce young people to industries with high demand that will never be exported. In partnership with the LA Carpenters’ Union, LAUSD, and Harbor Freight Tools, 30 students from San Pedro have been hired into their Carpenters’ apprenticeship program. With the construction boom, there is a shortage of skilled trades workers. This partnership offers graduates the opportunity to gain valuable skills, significantly enhancing their earning potential. These traditionally male-dominated careers are in need of more female workers. Currently, only three percent of their membership is female, but they earn the same wages as their male counterparts. #tradeswomen #tradesmen #skilledtrades

National Apprentice Week In honor of the 10th Annual National Apprenticeship Week, NYC Department of Environmental Protection will be highlighting the two apprenticeship programs that the agency hosts in partnership with New York State Department of Labor (DOL) in conjunction with SUNY Ulster for our Water and Wastewater Apprenticeship program in the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions. We are partnering with CareerWise New York (CWNY) and NYC Department of Education for the Youth Apprenticeship Program at our main office in Queens, NY. Our Water and Wastewater Apprenticeship Program is a registered apprenticeship for an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce, and individuals can obtain paid work experience with a mentor, receive progressive wage increases, classroom instruction, and a portable, nationally recognized credential. Registered Apprenticeships are industry-vetted and approved and validated by the U.S. Department of Labor or a State Apprenticeship Agency. DEP and District Council 37 have jointly sponsored Water and Wastewater Apprenticeship programs offer career-ready adults the opportunity to start a profession with DEP through full time, paid employment where they receive on the job training, paid coursework through our partnership with SUNY Ulster, and can receive their U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Water and/or Wastewater Certification. The Career Readiness & Modern Youth Apprenticeship Program is a 3-year program for NYC High School students. This program is geared towards high school students in 11th and 12th grades and through to their 1st year in college. This program is to assign high school students in the areas of Business Operations, Information Technology and Financial Services. We hold a strong commitment to supporting our apprentices. Apleona CEO Dr. Jochen Keysberg FRICS and COO Michael Engel really enjoyed their visit to the apprentices' training shop in April. This year alone, Apleona is training over 500 apprentices in more than 20 different professions. Well trained professionals are essential for Apleona's continued #growth and #success. Training our own young people is therefore an important building block in countering the shortage of skilled workers. We are therefore delighted that so many motivated young people have chosen apprenticeships at Apleona. There are good reasons to train in FM at Apleona: A technical profession in the FM sector is a relatively crisis-proof job. Even when the economy isn't doing so well, the assets in buildings always need to be maintained and repaired. On top of that, our technicians are work every day to improve the environmental performance of the buildings they manage. This is an argument that is winning over more and more young people. Trainees at Apleona are given clear personal development prospects and potential career opportunities during their apprenticeship. And we can offer very varied and interesting tasks in the portfolios we manage. We are committed to improving access to affordable housing. As part of our Housing for All strategy, we have committed to a three-year residential construction and manufacturing action plan to grow the number of registered apprentices in NB’s construction and manufacturing sectors. This will help to fill the demand for skilled trades professionals. Some recent promising statistics are: - # of active registered apprentices has grown by more than 23% since September 2018 – up by more than 1,000 - % of women apprentices has grown from 4% to 6.9% in the last 5 years - # of active Indigenous apprentices is over 100 for the first time ever Training more people in skilled trades will help meet the demand for new construction including housing developments.
