Structural Analysis 2 is a course that typically covers advanced topics in structural analysis, including - Moment Distribution Method - Column Analogy Method - Slope Deflection Method - Kani's Method of Rotation Contribution - Advanced Methods of Analysis like Matrix Method of Structural Analysis - Introduction to Plastic Analysis - Analysis of indeterminate structures - Curved beams and unsymmetrical bending - Influence lines for determinate and indeterminate structures The course is usually taught to undergraduate civil engineering students and is a continuation of Structural Analysis 1. It provides students with a deeper understanding of the theoretical aspects of structural analysis and their application to practical problems.

A happy photo after failure! In Dr. Alexander Spivak’s CIVE 2110 Civil Engineering Materials class, students are using our state-of-the-art universal testing machine to determine the mechanical behavior of various civil engineering materials. In this week's lab, they subjected the steel specimen to gradually increasing uniaxial load until failure occurred. From this controlled tension failure, students measured the ultimate tensile strength, breaking strength, maximum elongation and reduction in area. They then used these measurements to calculate material properties like Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, and yield strength. #RocketEnginers

The expansions of civil engineering infrastructures such as dams, railways, highways, bridges, mass transit systems, ports, and airports contribute significantly to the movement of raw materials, agricultural products, and, most importantly manpower from producing regions to urban areas. These expansions depend mainly on the technological developments in concrete science and structural and geotechnical engineering. Many problems in contemporary structural and geotechnical engineering are looked upon, solved, and extended for use in the context of soil-structure interaction, construction, structural materials and geometry, and other uncertainties. Therefore, there is an urgent need for researchers and practicing engineers working in the broad field of concrete technology, and structural and geotechnical engineering, to keep abreast of the latest trends and developments in these fields with the aim of updating their analytical and practical skills. Therefore, considering a pressing need to update the latest developments in the above fields, the third international conference on Advances in Concrete, Structural & Geotechnical Engineering (ACSGE) is being organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani (Rajasthan) during February 26-28, 2024.
