Are You Getting Enough Sleep? Sleep is essential for our health and well-being. Yet, many of us struggle to get the quality sleep we need. Are you getting enough rest? Swipe through to learn more about sleep requirements and common sleep issues. We adults should all be getting over at least 7 hours each night, while our children should be getting a minimum of 10 hours each night, if not significantly more! But few of us, anywhere in the world, are getting enough. Sometimes we're just too busy to sleep, but sometimes we can't! Sleep disorders affect millions of people worldwide, significantly impacting their quality of life. 30% of adults worldwide report symptoms of insomnia. A full 10% of the global populations has restless leg syndrome, a neurological disorder causing an irresistible urge to move the legs. Finally, there is sleep apnea. This condition, characterized by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep, affects an astonishing 1 billion people globally. According to the National Institutes of Health in the US, weight gain, large tonsils, and changes in hormone levels could all narrow your airways, increasing your risk for obstructive sleep apnea. If you are unsure how well you are sleeping, start monitoring yourself! There are multiple sleep trackers that we can use now to provide insights into how long we are sleeping, what stages (light, deep, REM) we go through, and whether or not we experience disturbances. Knowing your baseline is a first step in improving your sleep, your health and energy levels, your productivity, and mood. Getting a good night's sleep is the most important parts of your day. Quality sleep boosts brain performance, mood, and overall health. Not sleeping well regularly can increase the risk of diseases like heart disease, stroke, obesity, and even dementia. Dr. Marishka Brown from NIH says, "Healthy sleep encompasses three major things." These are sleep quantity, quality, and consistency. Modern life's irregular schedules and stress make good sleep challenging, but there are ways to improve it. Sleep helps the brain learn, remember, and even clear out toxins linked to Alzheimer's. Dr. Kenneth Wright Jr. adds that sleep is crucial for body repair, affecting everything from blood vessels to the immune system. Contrary to popular belief, adults do not need less sleep as they age. Also, you can't "catch up" on sleep over the weekend. Consistent, quality sleep is what truly matters. Some people struggle with sleep disorders like insomnia and sleep apnea, which can significantly impact their health. If you experience sleep issues, consult a healthcare provider who can recommend treatments or lifestyle changes. These 5 simple habits can enhance your sleep quality: 1️⃣ Create a sleep routine 2️⃣ Remove technology from your evening activities 3️⃣ Skip alcohol with dinner 4️⃣ Keep your room cool 5️⃣ Prioritise the dark Ready to address your sleep, boundaries and relationship with alcohol? The latest research recommends an easy, cost-effective tool that you can snag for less than $10 online. Try a sleep mask: Your bedroom is probably not as dark as it should be for quality sleep. Even when our eyes are closed, light impacts our sleep. Something as small as wearing a sleep mask may significantly impact our sleep quality. This will promote the deeper restorative levels of sleep needed for the body to heal and regenerate.

💡 Did you know that sleep apnea affects 39 million U.S. adults, disrupting their ability to get the deep, restorative rest that’s essential for overall health? Poor sleep not only leaves you feeling tired but can also increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and even weight gain due to hormonal imbalances. Sleep apnea occurs when the airway repeatedly closes during sleep, preventing proper oxygen flow and interrupting recovery processes. The good news? Treatment and healthy lifestyle changes can make a significant difference. Prioritizing quality sleep is crucial for both your physical and mental well-being. If you or someone you know experiences symptoms of sleep apnea—such as loud snoring, gasping for air during sleep, or excessive daytime fatigue—consult a doctor for guidance. Let’s harness the power of quality sleep for better health, productivity, and happiness! 💤✨ Learn more ➡️ https://shorturl.at/S6gwc #Go4Wellness #SleepHealth #Obesity #SleepApnea #Wellness

Here's MORE scientific proof that sleep MATTERS! A new study shows a strong link between sleep duration and high blood pressure. Data from 16 studies covering over 1 million individuals show that getting less than seven hours of sleep SIGNIFICANTLY increases the likelihood of developing high blood pressure, with an even higher risk for those sleeping less than five hours. 😮 Factors such as lifestyle habits, depression, anxiety, and sleep-breathing disorders may contribute to this association. Furthermore, this study also found that women appear to be at a higher risk of developing high blood pressure due to a lack of sleep. Bottom line: GET SOME SLEEP! And don't just count the hours — quality sleep is vital to your overall health! If you have trouble getting a good night's sleep, I'm here to help!
