105 years ago, on May 19, 1919, we respectfully commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who laid the foundations of today's secular and democratic Republic of Turkey by resurrecting the Ottoman Empire, which was described as the "sick man Ottoman" all over the world when it was about to be divided into pieces by France, Italy, Greece and England, by resurrecting the Ottoman Empire from its dead ashes, by adopting the Arabic culture and religion, by finding the first alphabet in the world that migrated from Asia, and by returning the Turkish nation to its original settings.

Alexander & Puru Porus! The hagiographic western view of Alexander's final battle (in pursuit of his ambition to conquer the world) is fairly well known. His men (demoralized with the resistance offered by a small vassal of mighty Magadh far away) did not have the heart to foray into the Indian sub-continent. Alexander has been known to be ruthless (including burning down cities with women and children inside). Hence there is always the possibility that it had been Puru who won the war and treated Alexander as 'one King ought to treat another'. But the fact remains that Puru and his men (conditioned to the ancient Indian values of war and statecraft) did not expect an attack at night. This would have been the principles by which battles were fought in India (only day-time action, no attacks on civilians, women and children etc). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #Leadership #Values #Creativity #history #lessons
