AESO Shorter Settlements A reason I don't believe the AESO is capable of undertaking a REM. Based on this slide, which was released as part of the Packet on November 7, 2024. Eight years to get to a 5-minute granularity, and 5-minute settlements for consumers are another 16 years away! In practically every other jurisdiction, 5-minute settlements with smart meters in play are now a reality. The common term used is "Virtual Generator" providing further competition to the marketplace. It is my understanding that every retail customer in EPCOR has a smart meter and can quickly take advantage of shorter settlements. 16 years when the software is available on the shelf today is beyond belief.
