It's a drop in the bucket given our industry's recent turmoil, but we just posted a new TECHNICAL LEAD role with THE LONG DARK dev team at Hinterland. Feel free to share with anyone you think might be interested! But I suggest you first read the fine print below.
https://lnkd.in/gR4-CsdX
Some important details (this is the fine print):
* It's a remote-first role, but requires deep collaboration and integration with a team that is mostly based around Vancouver, BC, so we are looking for folks who are (ideally) within a 3-hour time difference. You have the option to work from our Vancouver (Yaletown) or Victoria (downtown) studios whenever you like, if that's important to you.
* Please note the salary range in the posting. We focus on equity and fairness and our comp is based on public and private research data, and is pegged to the local market in Vancouver. We are an independent studio so pls don't bring your Microsoft or Google salary expectations with you. We also want you to be happy if you join us, so we will do whatever we can to make comp work, within reason.
* Discipline leads at Hinterland carry a range of leadership, management, and administration (those are three different things) responsibilities, and need to be active partners in our planning and execution phases. And yes, we like our leads to have their hands in the work as well, but you won't spend all your time coding in this role.
* We don't have PMs or Producers at Hinterland. We run a high-autonomy, high-accountability culture, which means you have to be self-managed but also highly collaborative, and willing to heavily invest in communication and relationship building. Nobody's really going to tell you what to do or how to do it, but you still need to lead a team with clear direction, you need to function well with other discipline leaders, and you have to be focused on shipping high-quality stuff to our players. Not everyone is used to having this much freedom or responsibility, and a lot of people come to realize that finding this balance is a lot harder than it may seem.
* You will be working with a massive code-base, some of which is not very new as the game has been in development for over 10 years. This introduces interesting challenges (and opportunities). You'll need to bring a pragmatic eye to the ongoing development of the game, as there may be things you'd like to refactor but where it just doesn't make sense to do so.
Note that this is a replacement to backfill an internal promotion. The previous Technical Lead will guide your onboarding.
THE LONG DARK is a highly beloved game with over 10M players, a fantastic player community, and (*bias alert*) an even better dev team, so joining us will afford you the opportunity to help build and complete something that means a lot to a lot of people. Your work will matter, not just to us, but to millions of players around the world.
Apply using the link in the role description below! Thanks for reading.

1moPlease add "too loud background music/noise" to the things that need testing. So many times, i.e. documentary, where the BACKGROUND (!!!) music is so loud, that the spoken word barely can be understood. I have auditory processing disorder and I find things like that utterly frustrating. So many times, background music is just unnecessary anyway. First I thought it's a problem with our TV, but I also noticed it on videos posted on Facebook etc.
