Apologies for the long post. I stupidly watched this video excerpt just before I went to bed. I am incensed and now compelled to encourage reflection about our mental health services. As professionals in our respective disciplines I do not doubt WE ALL are seeing children, teens, and adults of all ages with complex care and support needs. There are a million reasons for this and none of them are ok. Resources that should be someone’s basic human right are being denied, delayed or withheld. Acutely vulnerable people are seemingly given up on, abandoned, and there are more and more failures of the very system designed to help and support . Just watch the failures of support in this short BBC excerpt about an adult with long term mental health needs, listen to him appropriately and articulately reach out for help- and see what happens next. In this example there are no children involved. Maybe if there were, greater attention to this man’s needs and theirs would have been afforded to them. I truly hope so, but it is no longer assured. This man is alone, and there is seemingly less concern for him. His plight is a reminder of our responsibilities as human beings and as professionals to continue to strive for the best outcomes for all those vulnerable people we work with. Go the extra mile, robustly represent the vulnerable. Promote fairness, be generous. Be prepared to challenge and advocate for what is right and fair. Above all be human! https://lnkd.in/eSQaATB9

Breaking the stigma around mental health is crucial to ensuring that people get the care and support they need. However, many people still find it challenging to talk about mental health issues. Here are some tips to help start the conversation: >Choose the right time and place: Pick a time and place where you feel comfortable and where you won't be interrupted. >Be open and honest: Share your thoughts and feelings openly and honestly. Be willing to listen and show empathy to the person you're talking to. >Use supportive language: Use language that is supportive and non-judgmental. Avoid using stigmatizing or negative language. >Offer support: Let the person know that you're there to support them and that they don't have to go through it alone. At North Country Behavioral Medicine, we're committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to those in need. Contact us at (802) 404-1492 to learn more about our mental health treatment services. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessmonth

Our friends at the Northwest Justice Project's WashingtonLawHelp have published two new resources. One is a fillable Mental Health Advance Directive to say what you want to happen if your mental illness becomes so severe that you need help from others. There is also an FAQ. You can find it at https://lnkd.in/gfdZ2W77. The other provides information on what happens after you receive a writ of restitution (sheriff's eviction notice). Find it at https://lnkd.in/gcHA-7R7. [IMAGE: A graphic with text on the left and a photo on the right is shown. White text over a dark brown background reads, "New Online Resources!" Underneath is an orange box with white text reading, "Mental Health Advance Directive Form with FAQ. Eviction publication, "You received a writ of restitution." At bottom, white text reads, "WashingtonLawHelp.org." The photo on the right displays a laptop shown from above. A person's left hand is using the laptop's touchpad and they hold a white pencil in their right hand.]

If you feel like you are struggling or that something is holding you back, you might be right. And that "thing" could be you. Or more specifically your "EGO". Join Rob Begg next Wednesday for a free workshop on how you can live the life you want. #mentalhealth #freeyourself #ego
I help business owners enjoy 'un-reasonably' easy and predictable growth and create true wealth by leading from vision, intuition and heart instead of being led by the mind's logic, reason and dream-killing beliefs.
A huge thanks to everyone who attended live / registered to receive the recording of last week's 'Naked Truth About The Mind' event in support of Mental Health Awareness. Thanks also to the amazing Wendy Harris who kindly volunteered to support and facilitate the Q&A last week - who could be better qualified? 🤔 Although MHA week is officially over, I'm running the second planned 'Naked Truth' event next Wednesday. It's free, what I'll cover is both profound and liberating, all are welcome. and details and registration are here. https://lnkd.in/e2SXK7ME Wherever you are now, whatever you may have been through I can assure you that mental suffering is not necessary and that you can have whatever it is you want. Considering our entire life experience is mental, it's incredible we're not formally educated on the mind and that mental health awareness is condensed into a single week of the year. 😳

These are some terrifying stats taken directly from the World Health Organization’s website: Every year, more than 700,000 people die by suicide. That’s one person every 40 seconds. For every person who dies by suicide, 20 others try. 77% of suicides happen in low- and middle-income countries. It’s the 17th leading cause of death worldwide. But here’s the thing: intervention is possible. We know that evidence-based approaches work, and we can implement them at every level to prevent suicide and save lives. It starts with having the hard conversations, showing up for people, and making mental health support accessible. The stigma surrounding mental health is finally starting to crack—but it’s not gone yet. We have to keep chipping away at it by talking openly, pushing the conversation forward, and showing people that it’s okay to seek help. #MentalHealthMatters #SuicidePrevention #LetsTalkAboutIt #BreakTheSilence

today is #worldmentalhealthday – a day to raise awareness and break the stigma around mental health. it’s a day to talk, to share, and to remind each other that it’s okay not to be okay. but this year, we’re reminded of a heartbreaking reality. in 2023, 6069 lives were lost to suicide in england and wales. that’s 6069 people who felt that there was no other way out. we believe it’s time for change. it’s time to be louder, to check in on those around us, to make mental health a priority every day. suicide is complex but it’s preventable. we need to take action. on 13th april 2025, we’re bringing together 6069 people in honour of those we’ve lost and to raise awareness around mental health. this is a movement. a movement to ensure no one ever feels like they have to face their struggles alone. we’d love for you to join us: https://lnkd.in/gJfvSqjb together, we can make a difference. together, we can break the silence. there is always hope 🧡

"Thank you for this timely conference which is just what we need at this time." One feedback that we received from the Faith and Mental Health conference. However mental health and faith as a long uncomfortable history and the stigma around mental health is rife in faith communities. If people find out that you are in therapy or are on medication for mental health they might either ignore or label you. Many, including leaders, do not know how to deal with people with mental health challenges. As a result many suffer in silence and others leave to places that feel safer and more able to support their well-being. The Unlocking Hope: Faith and Mental Health conference addresses some of these issues, answers questions, and provides information that helps individuals and families. You can use the link in the comments to view the replays.

Tell MPs about your experience of mental health services. A committee of MPs has launched an inquiry to understand the experiences of adults with severe mental health problems and their family members. They particularly want to hear about community mental health services. Once the inquiry has ended, they will make recommendations to the government on how to improve care. We know that unfortunately many people with Huntington's disease have mental health problems and often struggle to get the support they need. We will also be submitting a response by sharing the findings of our mental health report - called Unseen and Unheard - and highlighting the need to improve mental health support for people with Huntington's disease. Information about the inquiry and how to respond is below. Please note - there's no need to answer all of the questions. The deadline to respond is Tuesday 4th February 2025. #HuntingtonsDisease https://lnkd.in/eXksuvVS
