When I was a student, I remember hearing about the US Industry waking up for World War II. Some called it, "The Miracle of Production," the shift of US industry from consumer goods to wartime production. Even if it was a miracle, there were numerous growing pains to work through and layers of coordination in every layer of production. Most importantly, hard work conducted over multiple shifts fueled the success. In my recent article published a few weeks ago on CIMSEC: Center for International Maritime Security, I offer an alternative to waiting for another miracle. I offer here a potentially unpalatable solution to adopt a modified DuPont Schedule, but I ask everyone who has an interest in this subject of shipyard production, could it potentially be implemented? Could it be modified to be more palatable to all stakeholders? Perhaps most importantly to note, I don't think this could be implemented tomorrow and immediately resolve all issues in shipyard production. There would be growing pains with this path. Someone in the comments mentioned supply chains and hiring more laborers. I think altering the work schedule could assist in attracting new labor to a relatively niche industry, but they are correct. There are a bevy of issues to resolve, but I try to tackle one at a time whenever possible. Again, this may be an unpalatable solution, but what could make it better? Or what have I not considered? I recommend joining the conversation here: https://lnkd.in/egdPSkCV

"Ships don’t sail by hardware alone; they sail on the shoulders of people." 🚢 In the evolving maritime landscape, human factors are increasingly recognized as key drivers of both success and failure. SIRE 2.0 highlights this shift by focusing on the people component—and rightly so: 🔹 People are the beating heart of a vessel: They operate, maintain, and adapt. They spot problems before they escalate. They ensure safety and efficiency when systems falter. 🔹 But barriers exist: Procedures that don’t reflect reality. Hardware that doesn’t work as intended. Conditions that make even basic tasks difficult. When the workforce is empowered—through supportive tools, effective procedures, and a culture of trust—success follows naturally. 🌟 Underestimating the human factor can stifle crew performance and compromise safety. Recognizing and addressing these barriers creates a win-win for the crew, the vessel, and the industry. As we move forward with SIRE 2.0 and other developments, let’s remember: 🗝️ "The success of a ship starts with supporting its crew." It is time to think about the role of human factors in your operations and how we can as leaders better support our people in achieving operational excellence! #MaritimeIndustry #HumanFactors #SIRE2.0 #SafetyCulture #OperationalExcellence

**Reflecting on my journey, I am proud to share my story of 15 years onboard ships, including 2 years as a Chief Engineer on oil and chemical tankers with V-Ships and Red Sea Marine Service. Watch my seafaring journey: https://lnkd.in/bEZ8rdJ ** Transitioning from sea to shore, I have been passionately involved in the MET sector since 2013, contributing to Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Liberia institutes. My role at the government-owned Liberia Maritime Training Institute stands out, where I designed training curricula, established mechanical workshops and electrical labs, and also set up STCW training facilities. I have also developed marine engineering curricula for Bangladesh, Liberia, and Malta and syllabi and training modules for various STCW short courses. https://lnkd.in/gqeRUgMR ** I studied at Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chittagong and graduated in December 1996. I completed my M.Phil. degree at UTM in May 2019. Later, in November 2020, I started my PhD at Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the Industrial Engineering department with a research topic: Exploring the Engagement, Knowledge, and Effective Training of Seafarers in Energy-Efficient Ship Operations. I have published some peer-reviewed papers as an output of my PhD study: 1) The article "Roles and Challenges of Seafarers for Implementation of Energy Efficiency Operational Measures Onboard Ships”. Published in the Marine Policy. DOI link: https://lnkd.in/gJJ8VhyE 2) Article “An Overview of Seafarers’ Engagement and Training on Energy Efficient Operation of Ships”. Published in Marine Policy. DOI link: https://lnkd.in/eApt-baQ 3) Article “Unveiling Seafarers' Awareness and Knowledge on Energy-Efficient and Low-Carbon Shipping: A Decade of IMO Regulation Enforcement”. Published in Marine Policy. DOI link: https://lnkd.in/gXki4nBh 4) Conference Paper “Effective Training of Seafarers on Energy Efficient Operations of Ships in the Maritime Industry”. Published in Procedia Computer Science Journal, DOI link: https://lnkd.in/gXw9EF8a. 5) The article “Immersive and Non-immersive Simulators for the Education and Training in Maritime Domain – A Systematic Review”. Published in the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering. DOI link: https://lnkd.in/gFzeHEdg. 6) Article “Sailing Towards Sustainability: How Seafarers Embrace New Work Cultures for Energy Efficient Ship Operations in Maritime Industry”. Published in Procedia Computer Science Journal, DOI link: https://lnkd.in/giaYXcAN From my M.Phil. study: 7) Article “Barriers for adoption of energy efficiency operational measures in shipping industry”. Published in WMU Journal of Maritime Affairs. DOI link: https://lnkd.in/g45pXH9u I am grateful for the opportunities to contribute to both the maritime industry and academia. #MaritimeEducationAndTraining #Seafaring #EnergyEfficiency #AcademicResearch #MaritimeIndustry #MET

On the railroad, quality training and mentorship is of the greatest importance. Knowing terminology, nomenclature, and glossary terms is the key to having a solid foundation in rules and concepts, building a solid base of qualified employees. "Mentor the less-experienced to perform service safely." It is the highest order a railroader can engage in, passing on their knowledge and experience. Take them under your wing. #justRAILROAD #railroadsafety

Experience it to believe it. I learned more about tooth cavities and their pain by experiencing it rather than just hearing dentists tell me to brush every day. I learned I wasn't good enough to play football in England by experiencing it, not by being told. Experiences are unforgettable moments. You need to touch, feel, and understand them in real scenarios. "Easier said than done." With our marine training, we bridged that gap. Participants engaged with the complexities of marine claims and machinery. It's one thing to watch a video, but experiencing it makes it stick. Highlights 1) Simulations. 2) A helicopter crash simulator in a swimming pool. 3) Hands-on experience with rafts and essential marine safety equipment. 4) Viewing the magnitude of the machines onboard vessels. Understanding the marine industry is crucial. It's the backbone of global trade and is vital to many countries' GDPs. By the end of the program, attendees were equipped with effective strategies for risk management in marine operations. Watch the teaser highlight video and see how we transformed marine training. The full video will be out next week. Stay tuned. #IAmTheCaptainNow
