Here are three simple reasons why Sustainability in the Built Environment Matters!!! 🚿 The built environment consumes about 40% of global energy and 25% of water resources. Sustainable practices help conserve these resources through efficient usage and waste reduction 🔌 ♻ Buildings contribute nearly 40% of global CO2 emissions! Sustainable design and construction practices are crucial in reducing carbon footprints and combating climate change ☀ 🦇 Sustainable building practices minimize disruption to local ecosystems, safeguarding habitats and promoting biodiversity 🐸 When the stakes are this high and you look at the stats, it makes me wonder, are we doing enough to prioritise sustainability in the built environment?

Sometimes, the toughest part of trying something new is just getting started. 👇🏻🏗️ Many in construction recognize that sustainability is an increasingly high priority, especially as global efforts to reach net-zero emissions pick up. Some are hesitant to make the transition though, in part because there's just so much to do. My latest blog post looks at a few important steps for starting your sustainable construction journey, but remember the most important point: ➡️ You don’t have to be perfect to find success. You just need to know where you are and where you need to go. #Sustainability #Construction #Decarbonization

🌍 Check out the latest edition of The Landscaper, where Chris Wellbelove highlights the crucial role of collaboration in reducing carbon emissions and how Blakedown Landscapes is proactively adopting innovative landscape solutions to mitigate carbon across all our projects. This feature is part of a broader discussion prompted by the recent Landscape Institute and British Association of Landscape Industries Landscape and Carbon Report. The report outlines a clear route map for reducing and sequestering carbon, aligning with the UK's 2050 net zero target. The article also sets out the eight essential steps to carbon capture and reduction and how thoughtful landscape and garden design can shape a sustainable future. 🌍 Read the full discussion here (P.18) https://lnkd.in/eS56RVwY #thelandscaper #landscapeinstitute #britishassociationoflandscapeindustries #carbon #carbonmitigation #sustainable #netzero #landscaping #landscapingsolutions #carboncapture #carbonreduction #netzero2050

As part of the Group’s aim to create a climate-resilient portfolio, our Sustainability team encouraged our colleagues to embrace sustainability in their scope of work and play through an informative ESG talk on circularity in a building's lifecycle. One such example is St James Power Station which achieved a significant reduction in embodied carbon through restoration and the adaptive reuse of materials as opposed to demolishing and rebuilding, which included preservation of the structure (see photo below). Our colleagues were also introduced to the application of nature-based solutions towards sustainable design and construction in the real estate industry and learnt about waste minimization through the efficient use and reuse of resources within a closed-loop system. #Mapletree #StJamesPowerStation #Singapore #ESG #Circularity #Sustainability
