Ahead of the General Election on the 4th of July, it is crucial that the needs of babies, children and young people are prioritised. They deserve safer, happier and healthier childhoods and more equal access to opportunities. All political leaders must now use their manifestos to set out plans to tackle child poverty, provide more support for young people’s mental health and wellbeing, and invest in children’s social care. We have a crucial opportunity to put children's concerns and experiences at the centre of decision making – to bring children to the table. We look forward to working with political parties as they harness this opportunity. We also call on party leaders to take the ground-breaking step of participating in a televised debate focussed on children and young people. What better way to show that they value children and young people than to include them in these key conversations? Let's have Children at the Table in transforming their lives. This article in Third Sector is very pertinent. While we were all quick to make necessary statements of condemnation and support after the last riots, it is imperative that the introspection required of the sector focuses on the role that we need to play in ensuring that we are challenging perspectives and myth-busting and educating upstream. The sector has been too cowed in recent years to desist from making what was deemed political statements. The implicit and sometimes explicit threats of sanction and attendant financial implications meant that we did not challenge robustly enough the rhetoric amongst politicians that fed false narratives (LIES) and scapegoating of minoritised communities and immigrants to the country, a situation that the Far Right exploited to reinvigorate their racism and xenophobia. As a sector, we need to regain that sense of purpose to bravely and purposefully challenge anyone that uses lies and misinformation and strawman arguments to demonise and cause division, while simultaneously having conversations about how we can best educate the country about a more comprehensive sense of the UK's history and its contemporary manifestations and implications. We can start with dismantling nonsense like Kemi Badenoch's recent article in the Daily Mail where, having been cynically silent about the riots, she opportunistically attributes the recent riots to identity politics. https://lnkd.in/eJHyAk3m. Let's not wait till the next riots or social upheaval before we make our voices heard. If we feel that we can be picked off individually or our lone voices will be too small to be heard amongst the noise, then let's work with our collective associations and membership bodies to pushback on our behalf. As we saw when the people came out in counterprotest, we have the power. #ThirdSector #Locality #Belonging #Charities #Community #SocialAction #PeoplePower #Racism #Xenophobia

Our 2022 Vital Signs report, in collaboration with Dr. Kate Dawson, Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science, shed light on pressing issues affecting our communities. Here's a snapshot: In Tower Hamlets, 44% of older individuals reside in income-deprived households, with similar figures in Hackney (41%) and Newham (37%), far surpassing the national average of 14%. When factoring in housing costs, London emerges with the highest child poverty rate in the nation. Within the capital, Tower Hamlets (53.4%), Newham (43.2%), and Hackney (41.3%) bear the brunt, with the highest proportions of children living in poverty. Through our multi-donor Life Chances campaign, we've been working to combat these inequalities. Together, we're striving to create a brighter, more equitable future for all. Join us in making a difference and find out how EECF has responded to Vital Signs over the past two years here. https://lnkd.in/e8un632G

World Central kitchen is feeding people with Hope. I deeply value CRS, SERRV International, Growing Hope Globally, Carroll Food Sunday, JRS, NDMV, Caritas de Puerto Rico and many others where I have served as staff, board member or advisor. These nonprofits are the front lines of poverty and injustice in the US and around the world. But right now we also need the voice of Chef Jose Andres who is simply trying to feed people on both sides of the equation in Israel and Gaza. I have no connection with World Central Kitchen. The problems of the world are complex but sometimes the answer is quite simple: Just feed somebody a decent meal. It doesn’t change the political equation. It doesn’t change the economic situation. It does let people know that we are one human family. That is a start. https://lnkd.in/eBMb-qUt

🚨 Giving Thursday 🚨 Today’s Spotlight: Mentors International https://lnkd.in/gAiEAp6j In a traditional business, you would never invest time or money without a clear return on investment. The same should be true for charitable giving, but instead of success being measured by ‘quarterly earnings’, you can now measure success on how many people you impact, for the better. Your “Return on Investment” or what impact you have should be clear, and it’s something you should demand from your giving partners. That’s why I love working with Mentors International. Peter Sturgeon has done a great job of making sure your ROI is transparent and clear when you work with Mentors International. They compile clear impact reports, as well as tie the number of people that will be impacted directly to my donation amount, before I decide to give. It has made measuring the impact of my donations easy, and fulfilling. Are there any other charities out there I should have on my radar that have a clear ROI?
