In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, Kirk Woodring, VP of Ambulatory and Community Services, sat down with the "Unravelling" Podcast to share how his brother’s suicide and his work in crisis intervention have shaped both his personal and professional life. He discusses the stigma and discomfort that surround suicide, even among professionals, and challenges misconceptions like the idea that talking about it encourages suicidal behavior. Welcome to Episode 11 of Absolutely Focused Radio podcast, a safe and informative platform hosted by the experienced Daniel Thabudd Nelson focused on exploring the complexities and nuances of relapse. Our journey today will guide us through relapse triggers, its effects, it's frequent causes, and effective strategies to prevent a relapse, using enlightening real-life stories to deepen our understanding. In our first segment, we delve into recognizing triggers with one man’s honest account of how workplace stress led him back to old habits. However, identifying the trigger allowed him to strategically manage stress, illuminating the importance of adaptable coping mechanisms in the face of unavoidable triggers. In segment two, we discuss the distressing effects of relapse, sharing the story of Maria whose personal life and self-esteem suffered notably post-relapse. This is contrasted with the triumphant learnings about Maria’s personal tolerance, turning a setback into a leap forward in self-understanding. Segment three probes into the common causes of relapse through the narrative of Alex and his solitude. Identifying the need for a supportive network can be a steppingstone towards creating a strong emotional and practical support system. However, the challenge lies in finding the right circle and conquering one’s reluctance to step into unfamiliar territory. Lastly, we explore effective prevention strategies. Sarah's relapse prevention included a mixture of professional counselling and a sober living community working towards building comprehensive support and accountability around her. However, the requirement of resources like time, commitment, and finances is acknowledged as a downside, highlighting the need for personalized prevention strategies that blend seamlessly into one’s lifestyle. Join us on this informative exploration and draw inspiration from real life instances of dealing with relapse. Stay with Absolutely Focused Radio and stay focused on your path towards recovery with more inspiring stories and insights in the coming episodes. Stay tuned. Remain strong. Stay awesome.

POWERFUL true story of a retired hero. It’s raw, it’s sincere, and it can be relatable to so many individuals within the law enforcement community. When you have the time to spare: listen and share with your network. We must #smashthestigma #michaelsugrue #lifestory #policeofficer #criticalincident #family #legalbattle #mentalhealth #ptsi #bluelivesmatter #relentlesscouragewinningthebattleagainstfrontlinetrauma #book #paperback #hardcover I have still yet to get it myself. I am waiting until I get done with my current college program; a time when I can actually have downtime to just sit and just read. Michael Sugrue, I will be determined to finish it in one day/one sitting. I have been able to do that with other books I have read (in 3-4 hours for a 300+ 📖)…that will be my goal.

Imagine being forced to send your child back into the arms of someone they fear. This is the reality many face due to the failures of our family court system. In my conversation with Dr. Christine Marie Cocchiola on The Gaslight Effect Podcast, we explored this blind spot in family courts. By failing to recognize the psychological trauma inflicted on these children, the court system perpetuates a cycle of abuse and betrayal. It’s time to ask the hard questions: What impact does this trauma have on children? How do we protect them better? The stakes are too high to ignore. Join us in this vital discussion on protecting the most vulnerable. 🎧 Listen now and help spread awareness. https://buff.ly/3Xe4vKb #GaslightEffectPodcast #CoerciveControl #EmotionalIntelligence #Gaslighting #psychologicalsafety

Here is a 5-minute documentary that I have wanted to write and produce for many years. It is about suicide and the triggers, solutions, and tools we can use to help understand and possibly use to keep others from taking their own lives. Much of what I shared here came from my own issues with suicide, and from research into the challenges others face. I was limited on the platform I created it on to five minutes, but I feel it is a good prelude to our upcoming, expanded version of the videos on this topic, and others from the Help Us Save Lives TV show. See the video here, and if you like, please share it with others. https://lnkd.in/g6GcUVRB
