I’m in the hospital after overdosing on caffeine (not joking) Here’s what it’s taught me about landing pages. 1. Don’t over do it. Landing pages do too much, they explain way too many features, go into too much technical detail, and end up boring visitors. In fact, they probably won’t even read the LP at all if it’s just a long body of tech stuff. 2. Lay the foundations first. Similarly to how you have consistent energy for the day, good sleep, good food, etc… Lay the same foundations with your landing page: - what questions are you genuinely answering? - are you answering these questions clearly? - is the copy/design structured in a way where it’s easy for your visitor to read & digest your message? If you’re doing anything OTHER than that — it’s probably not worth adding. As for why I overdosed on caffeine, I train. A lot.

Trying to be a good sport, and as a trailer-raised, commodity-nourished rez kid I sampled each portion, gagged, then said f**k it and closed out post haste, embarrassed for myself---nay, disappointed in myself--for not acknowledging each obvious red flag as I recognized it and listening as it came. Took the rest of that plate of half-assed slop to-go because I hate waste. My dog was... semi-delighted? Mildly disappointed? He ate it, un-enthusiastically, to get to his preferred kibble. To be fair, service was polite and competent. Food was notably, notably wretched. Truly, just excrement. I'd rather dine at a gas station. After all, a corn dog and Mountain Dew at least feels like an away game... This is my second Yelp review ever. I mean it." At Big Sky DevCon over the weekend, the first presentation was an excellent discussion of how to handle negative comments, especially when they are as pointed as this one! I would like to add one step to that, "Is it true?" Occasionally, a client will ask me to remove negative comments. That's not going to happen because I'm not a hacker. But, every business owner should ask, "Is it true?" first. In the case of the review above, it is true. I know it's true from having eaten there, even if I would not state it that way. If it's not true, I would suggest following the advice in the presentation.
