The Evolution Championship Series (Evo), one of the largest yearly esports events, is occurring now in Vegas. 20 Evo's ago, "moment 37" happened, and somehow the clip went viral pre Youtube. I was there, such an awesome event. Many people at the time believed Daigo (the Ken player) was actually psychic. The clip went viral, viewed over 100 million times, and inspired a new generation of players. The kicker? Daigo did not even win the event, but that matters little. Daigo, holding a Guinness World Record for Street Fighter wins, is celebrated as one of Japan’s greatest esports players. Evo 2004 and Moment #37 significantly boosted the fighting game community, drawing in new players and increasing tournament participation. Today, many top competitors cite the iconic clip as their inspiration.

Compared to the 2023 Summer Split, the league saw an increase of just over 36,000 to its peak viewership (223,943 in 2023) and an increase of around 18,000 to its average viewership (76,889 in 2023). While this is the final official season of the LCS as Riot Games will be merging the LCS, Brazil's CBLOL, and Latin America's LLA into one region consisting of two seperate leagues, it's a great sign for the future of the scene that viewership is still able to imrpove. #esports #viewership #riotgames #akshon #akshonesports
