Leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about discovering the leader within YOU! On December 16th, 2024, I had the honor of speaking at the Leadership Talk hosted by the Apeejay School Of Management. The event was nothing short of incredible, with a room full of bright, passionate, and curious minds eager to shape the future. 🌟 We explored key topics such as: ✔️ Identifying personal strengths ✔️ Overcoming challenges ✔️ Shaping the next generation of leaders It was inspiring to see the energy, confidence, and drive of these future leaders. Their questions, ideas, and enthusiasm proved that the future is in capable hands. Food for thought 💡 Expand the cup while filling it 🤔 Imagine that the leader’s mind is like the cup below. When a leader goes to a horizontally focused leadership program the goal is to fill the cup with new information and knowledge. What about vertical development ?🤔 A vertically focused intervention doesn’t aim to fill the cup, it aims to expand the cup itself. It increases the leader’s capacity. That way the leader can hold more complexity, more uncertainty, and more perspectives. Both forms of development are important and connected. Great leadership development aims to both fill the leaders mind (horizontal) and grow the leaders mind (vertical). I recently participated in a workshop hosted by the Webinar and Workshop committee of Exeed College on "Empowering New Age Leaders with Purpose-Driven Leadership." It was an eye-opening experience that delved deep into the importance of leading with a clear sense of purpose. Years of leadership experience taught me to communicate with polished, complex, corporate lingo. But in a recent session I was conducting at The Embodied Leadership Program for Young Leaders, while discussing the shift from tasks to value, my 19-year-old student nailed it with: “You mean chore vs reward?” It was a powerful reminder—sometimes, our experience adds layers that weigh our words down, making them more complex than needed. The next generation often has a gift for clarity, and there’s much we can learn from their fresh perspective. Their ability to see straight to the core of an issue, without overcomplicating things, is refreshing. It’s a reminder that while experience brings depth, it can sometimes blur simplicity. Lots of lessons learnt for me in that session. How are you embracing #simplicity and #openness in your communication? A boring ‘hook’ but hey, my brain, too, has off days 🤷♀️ Hook: Rethinking Sustainable Leadership A week or two ago, I ran a poll (pictured) where I asked people to vote which of the three factors, in their opinion, where the most important in making sure that leadership roles are sustainable. I’m not going to lie, the results both surprised me and didn’t surprise me 🤷♀️ They surprised me because they challenged my bias but didn’t surprise me because majority of leadership development programs focus on exactly that - interpersonal relationships. But are those interpersonal skills and strategies really sustainable if they are not grounded in true understanding and self-leadership?
