To all prospective pupils as you get ready to brace yourselves for your first or next round of pupillage application forms, here are my tips: 1 - think really carefully about the questions and make sure you address the actual question as fully and concisely as possible - it always surprises me how this basic point is often overlooked. 2 - get a friend (or three) to proof read the form for you before you press send. A few unfortunate typos can sink your ship. 3 - If you have faced challenges along the way in your life - generally or in your educational journey specficially, (socio economic, ill health, disability, prejudice/discrimination, life events such as unplanned pregnancy, bereavement etc...) don't be afraid to set out these challenges and how you overcame them as part of your application where this can be properly incorporated into answering the actual question on the form. Chambers will be keen to ensure that merit is recognised and graded fairly and this sometimes requires context to fully understand achievement.
