WHY HAS SLEEP BECOME A SKILLSET IN OUR MODERN WORLD? In an era where blue light from screens is omnipresent, our schedules stretch far beyond the traditional 9-to-5, and our time outdoors is markedly limited, sleep has transcended its traditional bounds to become a skill set—vital and nuanced. A century ago, the rhythm of life was dictated largely by the natural cycle of day and night. Sunlight exposure, crucial for regulating our sleep-wake cycle, was in abundance as people engaged in more outdoor activities. Fast forward to today, and we find ourselves grappling with a significant reduction in direct sunlight exposure, thanks to our increasingly indoor-centric lifestyles. The artificial lighting, especially blue light emitting from screens, has further exacerbated this issue. Our evenings, once periods of gradual winding down, are now lit up with the glow of devices. This tricks our brains into believing it's still daytime, thereby delaying sleep onset and reducing sleep quality. Overextending schedules are another modern curse. The boundary between work and personal life blurs with each passing day, as emails, calls, and messages follow us home, eating into what was once sacred rest time.
