Hanna Wroe, an #OASEIntern at Pacific Seafood, writes: Now that I am halfway through my internship I have accomplished finding three possible alternatives to polypropylene rope used in Pacific Seafood’s aquaculture practices of oyster farming. For the second half of the internship I hope to present and compare these alternatives to the current polypropylene rope. 🌾 Thrilled to share my enriching experience during my summer internship at Bayer Crop Science Limited! 🌾 Over 45 days, I had the opportunity to work on the project titled: "Understanding Farmer Needs in Weed Management in Rice for the Promotion of Council Activ Herbicide." This hands-on experience gave me valuable insights into the real-world challenges farmers face in managing weeds in paddy crops. 🚜 I discovered that misunderstandings in herbicide application are common, leading to lower weed control efficiency. Through my work, I identified ways to bridge this gap and improve practices. 💡 One exciting finding was exploring the use of drone technology for herbicide spraying in flooded paddy fields—a solution that could revolutionize weed management in such conditions! Council Active is a powerful herbicide designed to effectively manage weeds in rice fields. With its combination of two active ingredients—Bispyribac-sodium and Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl—it offers broad-spectrum control over both grassy and broadleaf weeds, as well as sedges. Applied post-emergence, typically 3-5 weeks after planting, Council Active ensures long-lasting weed control, reducing the need for multiple applications. It’s not only safe for the crop but also comes in an easy-to-use granular form, making it suitable for manual and drone-based spraying. In the field of Brassica napus var. TM canola, we. are developing #breedernucleusseed, the first main step towards producing certified seed.  For this, we do SPS (#singleplantselection). For single plant selection, the breeder must have maximum rejection power to ensure good quality and maximum purity.  In Brassica napus, for SPS we will select plants with the following characteristics:  🔍 SPS entails selecting plants with: ✅ Good stand ✅ Maximum branching ✅ Higher siliques per branch ✅ Early maturation ✅ Medium height   🚫 We employ strict rejection criteria for: ❌ Lodging ❌ Late maturing and secondary growth  ❌ Low branching and siliques per branch   Note: There should be a 2kg seed rate per acre and almost 60000 plants for good production. #agriculture #brassicanapus #oilseed #internship #TMcanola #bns #earlymaturing

Kenyan youth are some of the most well trained individuals on skill-set attainment on different programs at different well re-knowned institutions of higher learning in Kenya. Agriculture in Kenya, which contributes approximately 33% of Kenya's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs more than 40% of the total population and 70% of the rural population is one of the sectors in which the young people are trained on. (https://lnkd.in/ekAHr6qG) Kenyan graduates from the field of Animal Science, Animal Health, Livestock Production, Animal Husbandry and related subjects stand a chance of interning at major farms in Europe for international experience and global exposure. This is as a result of the existing partnership between Bixter.Training and BeCourse Group. The outstanding partnership has seen qualified graduates placed in different farms in Europe, including at the Netherlands and Romania for traineeship programs under the livestock production sector. Our desire, as a Kenyan company, is to build a society that is informed and aware of what is happening in other parts of the world, by directly having individuals live that very informed life and experience awareness through Learning By Doing.
