Leading the planning and execution of community events is always a dynamic learning experience. Each event brings its own unique set of challenges, whether it's a panel, workshop, summit, or gala, and these differences in themes, goals, and teams mean that no two events are ever the same. Despite careful planning, unexpected obstacles always arise, requiring quick thinking and collaborative problem-solving.
For example, when I organized the Rio Grande Comunidades Celebration with Nuestra Tierra, we encountered several challenges. The RSVP link malfunctioned unexpectedly, the food vendor canceled just a week before the event, our printer failed to produce the necessary flyers, and many attendees showed up without registering, making it difficult to estimate how much food we would need.
These hurdles reinforced my belief that event planning is an ongoing learning process, and I thrive in that environment. One of my greatest strengths is my growth mindset—I'm always eager to learn and improve. I’m incredibly proud of how this event turned out, especially since it was my first major project with Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project. We worked together as a team to deliver a successful celebration, and the feedback from attendees showed that they had a great time.
Here’s a snapshot of the event:
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Rio Grande Communities Celebration! Your support made the event a success, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to connect with our community, enjoy great food, music, and celebrate conservation together. Let’s keep building momentum for a better future!
