Our hearts are with The Home Depot family 🧡 Together we mourn the profound loss of their beloved co-founder Bernie Marcus. Among his many accomplishments and philanthropic contributions, Bernie was instrumental in the growth of our brands since our products were shipped to the opening of The Home Depot’s first two stores in 1979. We will continue to honor Bernie’s legacy through our valued partnership and collective dedication to DIYers and PROs.
Bernie and Arthur were a great team. Love Bernie - Great Man with a great vision, and soul for people who worked for him. I worked at Home Depot/Expo for 11 years, preparing and setting up new locations. Open to expand new directions, key to opening was always to say hello to everyone by name and get everyone involved. It created a great team environment, everyone felt empowered to participate and lend a hand - in all meetings and training to empower product knowledge.
I used to work for Lowe's, but I can honestly say that Bernie made an impact on us too. Home Depot changed how we did business. Without Bernie, none of that would have happen. I am convinced it happened for the good of both Lowe's and home Depot.
Great tribute. And what a legacy Bernie built with sweat equity, dedication and philanthropy from zero. The American dream.
He was a good man.

1moI was a Asst. Mgr. 23/24 in Hunt Beach HD on the day that BEHR Process entered the paint business exclusively at the Depot….in those earlier days not everyone (vendors) would sell to the Home Depot….together we built the brand into what it has become today….just one of many examples of Bernie’s innovative vision to drive the Home Depot’s success…
