Design Systems at Scale It's a challenge! I've worked on and in multiple design systems; each has been different to serve the teams and organisational needs. But, there is one way that's worked well. Imagine 500 shared components and 8 designers. Here's how I would organise the system: 👉 1 design system, 6 libraries. (1 library serves 1 goal) 👉 Each library has owners, edits and users. 👉 Designers have access to all resources from files. 👉 Products have domains, and each has product-specific features 👉 Foundations & Core components globally 👉 Each feature has its frame/section (not a page) 👉 Name components (core-name/instance-name) 👉 Components can move to Core if used everywhere There are many moving parts and all have the same principals but different areas need different components to work with. Have you found a better way? Share in the comments 😀

Design systems are made of many different pieces — components, patterns, styles, and guidelines — and can help operationalize and optimize design efforts. Use them to: 1. Design and develop work quickly, consistently, and at scale 2. Create a shared design language across teams and departments 3. Reduce redundancy of design patterns Style guides are much more focused and provide guidelines for use, and are only one piece that makes up a design system. Use them to: 1. Establish a cohesive experience across designs 2. Enforce consistency in specific aspects of the experience, such as content or visual design Read more: https://lnkd.in/gBrys4ku By: Kelley Gordon
