Advocating for Olaoluwa Care Stay - the first of its kind Postpartum Recuperative Care facility in California. This innovative initiative will provide Short Term Post Hospital Stay and Transitional Housing for at risk low-income postpartum women. Why is a facility like this needed? Many Postpartum women and infants face significant risks due to housing insecurity, domestic violence, traumatic births, lack of support systems, and environmental injustice. The combination of health disparities and Social Drivers of Health creates a challenging environment leading to adverse outcomes. We are advocating for the establishment of policies that enable similar facilities to be accessible nationwide. Founded in 2022, Medical Students for Maternal Health Equity (MSMHE) is a student interest group dedicated to addressing maternal health inequity through education, community engagement and advocacy. This bipartisan bill includes critical updates to strengthen services for older adults and their family caregivers and would authorize appropriations for the OAA through 2029. With the expiration of the OAA in September and less than two weeks left in the 118th Congress, the time is now to get OAA reauthorization across the finish line.
