As consumers shift from valuing purpose-driven statements (the WHY) to demanding action, engagement, and tangible outcomes (the WHAT), brands face new challenges in proving their relevance and responsibility. Brands that understand this shift will grow stronger and more resilient for the future.
Great talk with Sebastian Lundfall at Icebug AB and Al-Wadood Suberu at Third Culture Kids https://lnkd.in/dKaPpXKY about their approach to brand activism, consumer trust, and bringing diversity to the outdoor world. Read more about it in Scandinavian MIND 😘 The NXT Outdoor Consumer Report https://lnkd.in/d2rxdtyX reveals the urgency of this shift, with 84% of the Nordic population (and 89% of Gen Z) expressing frustration over the lack of engagement and measurable impact from brands. Day 3 of my Event Marketer Experiential Marketing Summit recap. Onto another hot topic - #sustainability Brands and agencies might have a ways to go. But we’re making progress. At The Opus Group, we've hired an #ESG leader to help drive these initiatives across TENCUE, Opus Agency, MAS, and Verve The Live Agency. This, along with the many actions we’ve taken over the past few years to operate in a greener fashion, are helping us move our clients and partners in the right direction. (Insert shameless plug for a recent post we did about this topic - https://lnkd.in/gjMNqDF7) So, what are some things to consider when you want to start making some changes in your event program? Venue Selection One of the primary considerations for sustainable events is the choice of venue. Brands are increasingly opting for venues that prioritize sustainability, such as LEED-certified buildings or those with robust environmental policies in place. Additionally, venues located near public transportation options help reduce carbon emissions associated with attendees' travel. Reduce Waste Waste reduction is a significant focus area. This includes minimizing single-use plastics, implementing recycling and composting programs, and encouraging attendees to bring reusable items like water bottles and tote bags. And, of course, no (or very little) SWAG. Some events even incorporate zero-waste initiatives, striving to divert all waste from landfills through careful planning and collaboration with vendors. Eco-Friendly Materials From event signage to promotional merchandise, brands and event agencies are opting for eco-friendly materials whenever possible. This may involve using recycled paper and cardboard, choosing biodegradable or compostable products, and prioritizing sustainable sourcing for branded items. Offset Carbon Emissions For events that still involve significant travel or energy consumption, carbon offsetting initiatives provide a way to mitigate their environmental impact. Brands may invest in projects such as reforestation, renewable energy development, or community-based sustainability initiatives to offset the carbon emissions associated with their events. Engage Your Stakeholders Sustainable events require buy-in and participation from all stakeholders, including clients, attendees, sponsors, and vendors. Brands and event agencies should actively engage these stakeholders in conversations about sustainability, setting clear expectations, and encouraging collaboration to identify and implement sustainable solutions throughout the event lifecycle. #eventmarketing #eventprofs #eventsindustry #experientialmarketing #experiential #corporateevents #b2bmarketing #eventdesign #eventplanning #liveevents #EMSlive #EMS2024 #CES2025 #rsac2024

🌍 Happy Earth Day! 🌱 As a sponsorship marketing specialist and advocate for purpose-driven marketing, I believe it is essential to reflect on how we and our brands can contribute to a more sustainable future. Earth Day is a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect our planet for future generations. But beyond just a day of awareness, it presents an opportunity for brands to align their values with actions that can make a difference. In sponsorship marketing, leveraging events and initiatives that champion environmental causes demonstrates corporate social responsibility and creates authentic connections with consumers who share those values. By investing in initiatives that promote sustainability, we not only enhance brand reputation but also contribute to meaningful change. Moreover, Earth Day underscores the importance of purpose-driven marketing. Consumers today expect more from the brands they support—they demand genuine commitment to social and environmental causes, not just lip service. Brands that authentically incorporate purpose into their marketing strategies drive positive change and foster deeper connections with their audience. As we celebrate Earth Day, let's challenge ourselves to think beyond the traditional marketing playbook. Let's use our platforms and resources to drive meaningful impact, inspire change, and build a more sustainable future together. 🌿 Visit EARTHDAY.ORG to find out more about this year's campaign, #PlanetVsPlastics. Their ambitious goals of achieving a 60% reduction in plastic production by 2040 and eliminating single-use plastics by 2030 are crucial steps towards a healthier planet. Join the movement and explore ways to take action: https://lnkd.in/dSAQFrVp. #EarthDay #PurposeDrivenMarketing #Sustainability #BrandPurpose #SponsorshipMarketing #Sponsorship #PlanetVsPlastics #EndPlastics

One word positioning.....the ultimate goal. I wrote a few weeks ago about the Hublot amazing one-word positioning of "Fusion" that both defines the product and gave permission for their future innovations. This week I noticed a new bottle for Värska Originaal water appear in our offices and a campaign on social media through Lola Social and suddenly a one-word positioning came to mind. "Clarity" ....to my surprise this does not seem to have been used in such a simple way before for water as everyone has got caught up on describing the mineral content, the exclusive source and position themselves as luxury to elevate the price. Is #Clarity too simple to base a campaign or product positioning around...? Maybe... but think about it a 3 point approach around the product. 👉 #Clarity of the water... a fundemental in the bottle water industry. 👉 #Clarity... of mind (campaign) When life gets a bit too much at work, looking after a child, a problem that seems unsolvable... what is the solution? To sit back, take a break, take a drink of said brand's water, re-hydrate and regain clarity of mind! This offers a brand so much scope to deliver interesting media across all channels with a simple tag line 'When you need clarity' The fun approach could even extend to a screaming child who wants something from a frustrated mother. The mother sits down and drinks the water, then the baby starts speaking... "mommy if you would be as kind as to pass me Mr teddy from the table please' 👉 #Clarity of purpose... The companies sustainability push back towards glass bottles. What do you think, is the pursuit of a single word position worth the effort and do you refine yours to just a few words? Have a great week and remember that Nexperience.net we aim to keep things simple! If you feel that you need help with your branding or campaigns in a simple way then just let us know!
