The year 2025 marks 26 years that the annual WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA Symposia will be held uninterrupted in Eastern and Southern African regions with the ultimate aim of promoting interaction among policymakers, academics, practitioners from water and related sectors, and cooperating partners. The key actors in the water sector have during this annual gathering identified regional issues, gaps and priorities that require further research and support in pursuit of enhancing integrated water resources management in Eastern and Southern Africa. Great emphasis has always been placed on the integration of knowledge, particularly involving scholars from the natural and social sciences.    Countries in the SADC region as well as in Kenya and Uganda rotate in hosting this annual event. In 2024, the 25th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA Symposium will be convened in Maseru, Lesotho 30 October - 1 November 2024. The National University of Lesotho is the host of the 25th  WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA symposium.    WaterNet is therefore, calling for expressions of interest for hosting the 26th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWPSA Symposium in 2025.   Submissions should highlight the following:    Country, city and venue where the symposium will take place (indicate capacity of the proposed venue for both conferencing and accommodation); 2.   The proposed theme of the Symposium (Though this can be refined later); Organisations that will be part of the Local Organising Committee; Anticipated organisations that will provide support in cash and in-kind; How the event will be marketed locally and internationally; Nature of technical support that will be required from the convenors, i.e. WaterNet, GWPSA and co-convenors.   Expressions of interest submissions from countries that have not hosted the symposium before (i.e. The Comoros, Seychelles, DR Congo and Madagascar) are strongly encouraged.   Kindly submit your expression of interest on or before the 30th April 2024 to the WaterNet Executive Manager, Prof Jean-Marie Kileshye Onema, jmkileshye-onema@waternetonline.org, copy and waternet@waternetonline.org.

📢 On May 27, the 12th Annual Meeting of the @Global Research Council (GRC) started in Interlaken, Switzerland. This year’s event was organized by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF in cooperation with the Fonds pour la Science, la Technologie et l'Innovation l’Innovation (FONSTI). The GRC is a virtual organization, comprised of the heads of research funding agencies from around the world, dedicated to promote the sharing of data and best practices for high-quality collaboration among funding agencies worldwide. From year to year, the GRC Annual Meeting remains the most powerful platform for exchanging ideas, challenges, and possible solutions in the field of research around the world 🌏 Together with other representatives of national and private research foundations, research governing bodies, governmental and non-governmental organizations working in the field of research funding and management, as well as international organizations and initiatives, Olga Polotska, Executive Director of the NRFU, was invited to participate in the event. This year the main topic to be discussed by the participating organizations of the GRC is Sustainable Research in three priority areas: Research for Sustainable Development, Making Research Itself Sustainable, and Use of Research for Sustainable Development for Society. This year, the Ukrainian representative will not only speak as a speaker, but also for the first time will chair a session dedicated to one of the urgent issues of the meeting. The event will take place until May 31. Held on Saturday 20th April 2024, this year's keynote is from Professor Charles Perfetti - Progress in Reading Science and its Uneven Impact on Practice As a run-up to the conference day we are making all six seminars available to all delegates THREE weeks in advance, so you have the opportunity to watch them all before the day and submit questions to be put to the speakers in LIVE Q&A sessions in the afternoon of the conference. The seminars will not be shown live at the conference, but our speakers will be present at the event on the 20th for live Question Time panel sessions with delegates. The keynote address will be presented on 20th April with a LIVE Q&A session with Professor Perfetti following. Recordings from the day, along with all the seminar recordings, will be available on the conference page for THREE weeks after the conference. Delegates will be given access to the conference page by the admin team via a special link three weeks before, or when they book the conference.
