Manhattan’s famed luxury store row Fifth Avenue is in line for a major makeover. New York City officials recently unveiled a plan to transform a central portion of the thoroughfare between Bryant Park and Central Park into a more pedestrian-centered boulevard. They propose doubling the size of sidewalks, reducing traffic lanes from five to three, as well as adding seating areas and hundreds of trees and planters, among other improvements. The vision is to emulate iconic strolling and shopping boulevards such as the Champs-Élysées in Paris. What are your thoughts on this proposal? Are the clocks in London's public places accurate? I started my game at the Royal Opera House when I told the barista working in the ground-floor café that they were misleading the audience and they might be late for the performance. He didn't get my joke, so I showed him a Rolex clock on the wall in the foyer, which was late by… 28 seconds. I must say that, although my Blancpain Bathyscaphe is phenomenally accurate, I always set it with the Atomic Time app on my phone before I start this game. I'm not specifically looking for anything, but here are some of my recent observations. In the photos, from left to right, Rolex in the lobby of the Royal Opera House. One of the most accurate clocks I've captured is on the side facade of Patek Philippe's flagship store on New Bond Street. It was three seconds late. By the way, most clocks do not have a second indication. The Hublot nearby, also on New Bond Street, was two minutes late. The Swiss Glockenspiel automaton in Leicester Square is practically error-free. I suspect that it has some automatic time correction system. In the second row, I found the first clock from the left in the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Gregory in Warwick Street, Westminster. The clock is modest but accurate. Next to it is a very accurate wall clock in the Brasserie Zédel ground-floor café. And the clock on the Old Bond Street facade of the Bottega Veneta boutique was more than five minutes late. The automaton clock on the facade of Fortnum & Mason, one of London's landmarks, was three minutes late. I realise that it is not very easy to maintain it so that it is completely accurate, but I think it should be tried. Three minutes is a lot for a class-A celebrity. But in the big picture, we have to be pleased that in London, which has a long and venerable tradition of horology, the vast majority of the street clocks are working and indicate the correct time, which is not the case in European capitals or their big cities. The symbol for that and the flagship of British precision is Big Ben, which is accurate to within two seconds per week. #Clock #Blancpain #Royaloperahouse #Rolex #PatekPhilippe #Hublot #Zedel #BottegaVeneta #FortnumandMason #BigBen #London

Royalmount – I was there last night with my friends. Other than the great company, the not-easily-impressed yours truly found the experience disappointingly average. Where do I start? With the massive block of overpriced luxury brands crammed into Montreal’s busiest, most confusing intersection. Or the ultra-modern restaurant, beautifully lit, where you’re surrounded by high-end candles and table gadgets, sipping on something you can’t pronounce while waiting for overpriced tacos. And then, the cherry on top: Enter the progressive, inclusive, empathetic, compassionate, gender-neutral restroom experience—because nothing says “forward-thinking” like sending your 12-year-old daughter into the same space as a 6-foot “vulnerable” man.
