From 28 riders to 100,000 proud owners and spectators, This is how Harley-Davidson Motor Company celebrated their 100th birth anniversary. When Harley Davidson threw their 80th birth anniversary street party, only 28 riders showed up. Fast forward to their 100th birth anniversary party. 100,000 proud owners were roaring their Harleys in the street for another 100,000 spectators. So, what changed? 1. After their failed 80th birthday party, Harley-Davidson folks knew they had to do something. But what? The answer was ‘building a strong community.’ 2. They knew that there was a sense of brotherhood among Harley riders but nothing in touch with the brand. So, the first thing they did was launch HOG—Harley Owners Group. 3. Being part of this club meant you were part of a family with a million members across the globe. Plus, you’d get exclusive access to special events, merchandise, and travel opportunities. And Harley Davidson made sure of it by organizing and sponsoring numerous biker rallies, charity drives, meet-ups, and parties. 4. Soon, Harley Davidson became infamous for their humongous biker rallies and shows throughout America and Europe. Today, it’s a brand synonymous with a strong culture and shared experiences with its customers. Newer manufacturers, like Royal Enfield for instance, have adopted the same approach to brand-building (which isn’t exactly building a brand but a community).
