Did you know that you can build a spectral scanner using two Linear Variable Filters? By combining a Linear Variable Long-Wave Pass with a corresponding Linear Variable Short-Wave Pass filter, you can create a tunable Bandpass Filter. As the two filters move linearly, the spectrum is scanned, as shown in this graphic. This solution is typically simpler and more environmentally robust than, for example, rotating diffraction grating monochromators.
