It was a pleasure to speak with BBM 98.7FM in Cairns recently about the importance of advance life planning, particularly for First Nations people. A recent study by the Queensland Public Trustee found that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are 57% less likely to be aware of their options and choices in this area. Having essential legal documents—such as a Will, Enduring Power of Attorney, and Advance Health Directive—not only allows people to shape their legacy but also offers protection from financial elder abuse and ensures their medical treatment preferences are respected. #AdvanceLifePlanning #Guardianship #FinancialAdministration #FirstNations #LegalProtection #FinancialElderAbuse #WillPreparation #EnduringPowerOfAttorney #AdvanceHealthDirective #Legacy #CommunitySupport #Queensland #IndigenousRights #PublicTrustee #Cairns Take a listen to the interview below: https://bit.ly/3SW77Lj

What a great idea! Well done Council for Disabled Children and Isos Partnership. I’m sure this will be an informative and useful resource to guide many in what does work to improve SEND services. #WhatWorks #EffectivePractice #PartnershipWorking #Coproduction
On Thursday 28 March, the Council for Disabled Children and Isos Partnership launched the What Works in SEND Effective Practice Evidence (EPE) Framework. The EPE Framework was developed during 2023 through co-production with local and national SEND system leaders and parent carers with experience of the SEND system. The EPE Framework provides a robust methodology for capturing, validating, and sharing examples of Effective Practice in establishing and sustaining effective local SEND systems in England. Each case study has been independently reviewed by our pool of reviewers, including parent carers, with experience of leadership and strategic co-production within the SEND system. Effective Practice case studies include: - Developing ordinarily available provision in Portsmouth - Implementing the role of the DSCO in Shropshire - Creating the role of a “SEND Strategic Lead” in a healthcare provider in Northumbria - Manchester's approach to a co-produced community offer - Developing strategic co-production through the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council - Sustaining strong strategic partnership working in Islington The Effective Practice case studies have been arranged around 7 dimensions relating to aspects of the work of local SEND systems: - Strategic partnership working, leadership and governance - Co-productive working with young people and parent/carers - Achieving long-term outcomes and making a difference to lived experiences - Information and communications - Universal support - Targeted support - Specialist support Amanda Allard, Director at the Council for Disabled Children, said: “We are delighted to be able to launch this framework. For too long we have understood far too little about what does work to improve SEND services. These case studies are the start of building a moderated body of actionable knowledge which leaders can pick up and take forward to adapt and implement for themselves.” To read the Effective Practice case studies, please visit the What Works in SEND website here: https://bit.ly/3IVPXrO If you know of an example of effective practice that you think would meet our evidence standards: https://bit.ly/4afz3jN then please submit a 500-word expression of interest detailing the example of good practice, the aim of the work and its impact here: https://bit.ly/49bBCSM. #WhatWorks #EffectivePractice #PartnershipWorking #Coproduction

If you want to listen to Leander Kreltszheim, Jarrod Linkston Wheatley and myself talk about why relational centred practice matters in the care sector check out this webinar hosted by Portable last Thursday. I specifically talk about a couple of key things that matter to me. • Our interconnected relationships with our culture, kinship and country form our foundation for our identity and shared responsibility. • We must consider our long term relationships with our environment and kinship. This will allow us to make better decisions when building the conditions for better outcomes. • Relaitonships must be prioritised when working with people, especially those that are already marginalised. We must consider their prior experience. Let’s reduce the risk of more harm. • Reflective practice is vital! https://lnkd.in/g9ekpCyi
