Maybe it's because I'm a bridge engineer, but I'm more interested in the connection structure between girders and columns than the scene of a vehicle crashing into a bridge. #bridge #engineering #civil #design #construction
Rare to see a 'Bridge Bash' take it completely off the bearings! Only a footbridge I presume? Agree with the other comments - where was the 'Over Dimensional Route' planning and clearance signage on this one? The Insurance Claim forms are always an entertaining read. "I was just driving along...." 🤣
Beomsoo Park, It's because of an occupational disease 😅
Girders are placed on bearings and the vehicle momentum has to overcome only friction, not the full weight. This is why we always keep about one to 3 feet margin while calculating headroom. This is not a structural issue:
It seems that all the blame lies with the driver and those who have planned the route for his trip...and I also agree with that...but is it normal for a bridge to fall so easily? In most cases, structural engineers consider only the vertical load but rarely give the necessary importance to other types of loads.
The traffic flow considerations and vehicular type has not been considered before constructing this bridge .In construction little ignorances may cause serious disasters.
Algunos tienen algunos años de experiencia y creen que nadie les podria aconsejar. Hacen el trabajo asi porque dicen "nunca sucedió"
Prior to it , Goal Post / Height Barriers should be Provided with Proper Signages
Road height restriction barrier 🚧 should have been constructed before entering the foot bridge. This could result in fatalities. The highway authorities must be vigilant on this.
Height gauge with 30cm below bottom of bridge girder or slab on both sides of the bridge should be provided.

9moThe problem arises from the transport agency's failure to conduct a route survey before transporting the Boom Placer unit. Height restrictions vary across locations, with some areas having a clearance of 5.5m and others limited to 4.5m. It is imperative to establish consistent height clearance throughout the route. Particularly in this incident Height restriction signage is missing. Luckily no one got injured expect the property damage.
