𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗘𝗢𝗧 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀: 𝗔 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 The history of Overhead Electric Overhead Traveling (EOT) Cranes is a remarkable narrative of industrial innovation, with several companies playing pivotal roles in their advancement. These cranes, now essential in industries ranging from manufacturing to construction, have a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. The earliest overhead cranes, used in the mid-1800s, were manually operated, designed to lift and move heavy loads in burgeoning industrial factories. As the industrial revolution advanced, the demand for more powerful and efficient lifting systems led to the creation of steam-powered cranes. This marked the dawn of mechanized material handling. The true leap forward came with the rise of electricity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Pioneering companies like DEMAG, Konecranes, and ABUS Kransysteme GmbH played a crucial role in developing the first electric overhead cranes. The introduction of electric motors revolutionized the industry, offering greater precision, control, and lifting power. These early electric cranes, though simple by today’s standards, laid the groundwork for modern material handling. Throughout the 20th century, EOT cranes continued to evolve, with advancements like the wire rope hoist and sophisticated control systems improving safety and efficiency. Companies such as STAHL CraneSystems GmbH, Liebherr Group, and Street Crane contributed significantly to these developments, ensuring that EOT cranes could meet the growing demands of various industries, from steel mills to shipyards. Today, EOT cranes are at the forefront of modern manufacturing and logistics, incorporating advanced automation and smart technologies. As we look back at the companies that drove this evolution, we also recognize new innovators who continue to push the boundaries. Vikash Fabrication is proud to be part of this legacy, providing state-of-the-art EOT cranes that reflect the same spirit of innovation and excellence. Our commitment to advancing material handling technology ensures that we contribute to the ongoing story of Overhead EOT Cranes, alongside the giants who paved the way. #EOTCranes #IndustrialInnovation #ManufacturingHistory #MaterialHandling #VikashFabrication #EngineeringExcellence

PORTS AND EQUIPMENTS: PART 2 Let us now have a closer look to the second categories of Quay cranes which are the Mobile Harbour Cranes. They are mainly used for quayside operations as well as STS but in reality, they can also be used in the yard. They stand on temporary feeds, have rubber tires, and usually have a biggest load capacity than STS. They can handle up to 300 tons, provided you know how to use the load curve. They can’t handle same weight in every position. So their capacity to handle a load depends on the position of the load. They have less vertical reach and less cross span on the vessel than the STS more often. With a 360° rotative tour and boom they can handle loads from any position around the crane as the they are in the reach of the boom. Since they stand on temporary feeds and have mobile rubber tires, they can move from quaysides to the yards for containers and non-containerized packages handling. They are suitable for rolling cranes and mining equipment’s offloading and onloading. The main weakness of MHC is that they do not have good cadence compared to STS. They almost are 30% less performant than STS in containers handling even with very brilliant and competent operators. Operating them is also more tiring as they have less automatism than the STS. That is why in most of the ports, they prefer using them for LOLO ships. AS STS, they also mainly use drives from SIEMENS, TOSHIBA or ABB. THey do not use elevators, operators, maintenance and breadown engineers would use the stairs to reach the cabin situated at more than 20 m from the ground. As well as The STS, MHC are managed with performance indicators such as the cadence (number of lifting per hour), the hourly operating cost and the operational availability. When the hourly operation cost start becoming high, there is a decision to make for maintenance or replacement. The main manufacturers of MHC are Gottwald (from now on owned by #KONECRANES), #LEBHERR and GENMA (Chinese company, part of Jiangsu Rainbow Heavy Industry, not very known nor used in Europe and Africa for the moment).
