🐾 Happy International Guide Dog Day! 🐾 Today, we celebrate the extraordinary guide dogs that bring independence and joy to many lives across the globe. 🎉 Guide dogs are more than just pets; they are lifelines to their handlers, providing them with freedom, mobility, and companionship. What do Guide Dogs Do? Guide dogs are trained to lead their handlers around obstacles, through crowds, and across busy streets. They help navigate public transport, provide vital confidence, and support to participate in everyday life. Training and Costs Training a guide dog is an extensive process that can take up to 2 years and cost over £50,000. This includes their breeding, training, and support throughout the dog's working life. Why Sponsor a Guide Dog? Sponsoring a guide dog can make a huge difference. It helps cover the costs of raising and training these incredible animals, ensuring that they can continue to support those in need. Missing your furry friend on your big day? 🐾 Don't worry! There are plenty of ways to include your pet in your wedding without them physically being there. Here's a few: 1.Create favors with a photo of your pet, or include a small photo of your pet in each favor bag. 2. Pet-Themed Decor: use a photo of your pet as a table centerpiece or create a memory table dedicated to your pet. 3. Write vows that mention your pet and the joy they bring to your life. 4. Make a donation to a local animal shelter or rescue organization in honor of your pet. 5. Use a cake topper that features your pet's likeness. 6. Create a signature cocktail or mocktail named after your pet. By incorporating these ideas, you can ensure that your beloved pet is a special part of your wedding day, even if they can't be there in person.

When feds bust dogfighters, they're charged with "conspiracy." The ASPCA, the Humane Society of the United States and Best Friends Animal Society, which is a front for dogfighters, are all part of that conspiracy. Don't believe that? Here's just one example: National Dog Fighting Awareness Day is Monday, April 8. Last week, police/feds took 100+ pitbulls from eight New Jersey dogfighters, 78 pitbulls from Alabama dogfighter Carlton Adams and 73 pitbulls from California dogfighter Jorge Ayala's property. New Jersey dogfighter Bruce Low Jr. and his family/friends had been investigated since "late 2021," per 6abc-dot-com; Alabama dogfighter Carlton Adams had been investigated since September 2023, per AL-dot-com; and California dogfighter Jorge Ayala, whose "whereabouts are unknown," per NBC Bay Area, had been investigated since "early March." If you think it's a coincidence that feds decided to swoop in and rescue all these "poor, poor dogs" a few days before National Dog Fighting Awareness Day, please do not vote in the upcoming presidential election. Stay home. Smoke your weed. Eat your edibles. Drink your wine. Binge watch TV. Leave the heavy lifting to the rest of us. #animalcruelty #animalwelfare #animalrights #catsoflinkedin #kittenseason #catrescue #greed #gambling #corruption #nationaldogfightingawarenessday https://lnkd.in/gPs4x3u4
From the BanPitBulls community on Reddit: Why are dogfighters charged with conspiracy? DAYS before the ASPCA's National Dogfighting Awareness Day, police/feds have seized 200 pitbulls from dogfighters in California, Alabama & New Jersey, where HSUS took pictures of the dogs it will milk for donations. Dogs were also found in Connecticut.

It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it 🤍 Being a dog rescue does not mean cuddling cute puppies all day (although there are times for that)! There’s a lot that goes into saving lives behind the scene that often take months-a year of planning to save each life. Our team is human and we will never get used to seeing dogs go through tough times. Ongoing support from you all truly makes all the difference in the world for dogs, and for us. Help dog rescues whenever you can. There is something everyone can do! How you can help: -Set up a monthly donation (link in bio) -Donate kibble. This is a never ending need! (Amazon wishlist in bio) -Foster! We need at least 20 short term and long term fosters currently to help current dogs and local surrenders who need help (apply on our site) -Volunteer your time (we always need drivers, supply hubs, administrators, and photographers) -Share our content! Getting the word out about dogs in need of fosters and adopters does work! #dogrescue #torontodogs #redemptionpaws #adoptme #fosterme #adoptdontshop

A colleague and I discuss how people today seem more tired and edgy. He commented that many of us are dealing with stress from all sides: job, political, financial, work, family, etc. Some days, I become quite overwhelmed -- with my negative thoughts pinging around out of control. When I feel this way, I tell myself I can't change what's going on, but I can change how I react, as well as the choices I make. (I also head out for a bike ride, which always clears my head.) One of my choices, which I post about frequently, is buying US made items whenever possible. The second choice is supporting causes I care about, one of which is the Essex Greenbelt's Osprey program. Each year I donate $100 toward it -- which may not seem like a lot, but it is. (I've been in fundraising and know any amount is always gratefully received.) Greenbelt, a non-profit land trust, conserves land in MA. I'm thrilled to learn a local woman in Haverhill (town next to mine) has donated two parcels of land totaling 90+ acres. I ride my bike past both a couple times a week and noticed the new Greenbelt sign last week. Hurrah! The parcels are adjacent to two small working farms, so it's wonderful this entire area will remain intact. For those of you who love birds, the Osprey cam in Gloucester, MA is now live: https://lnkd.in/ezwQwxu. Annie and Squam have their first egg, which is very exciting. And, here is the link about the parcels now under Greenbelt management. It may not be local to you, but it's a great example of how we can change our part of the world: https://lnkd.in/eYFc-GgY And, a link to my updated Keep It Made blog Welcome page -- about why I do what I do. This was a little scary for me to write. I'm not used to being, what is for me, so honest in saying what I think. https://lnkd.in/eJeiTYuj #blessings #smallchoices #spring

Hey, Dog Lovers! We're celebrating something special today, and indeed, all week! Today is Assistance Dog Day (and the beginning of International Assistance Dog WEEK)! Assistance Dog Day is celebrated on August 4th every year. Dogs are a man’s best friend because of their loyalty and dedication, but assistance dogs take this to a whole new level. These dogs help people with disabilities or illnesses to navigate through life. They help where they can and perform simple tasks like guiding their owner’s path, helping fetch an item, and lots of other activities. These dogs and their trainers deserve to be celebrated! This brought about Assistance Dog Day, which aims to raise funds and increase awareness of the work they do. It makes up part of International Assistance Dog Week. So, anyone in DFW with an assistance dog who reserves their AffordARide and mentions this post will receive a 30% discount off their ride! Rides are on a forst-come, first-served basis, so contact us today to make your reservation! ~~~ #happyassistancedogday #assistancedogday #assistancedogdayoff #assistancedog #assistancedogs #AssistanceDogsofInstagram #assistancedogtraining #assistancedogintraining #nationalassistancedogday #followers #followerseveryone #followerseveryonehighlights #followersfbpage #followerforfollower #follower4follower #followers4followers #followersforfollowers #likesforlike #likeforfollow #like4follow #lfl #followusonfacebook

On average, every 47 minutes someone not wearing a seat belt dies in a car crash. Have you ever noticed how working with and around a cause long enough eventually fuses the messaging and cause into your DNA? I grew up in an era when wearing seat belts was not an everyday habit. I remember thinking, “I’m smart and careful. I’ll be fine.” Years later, as I helped to build a case for support for Emergency Nurses CARE injury prevention, I became embarrassed at what I DIDN’T know regarding seat belts, child passenger safety, gun safety, bicycle safety and the dangers of drinking and driving. The nurse leaders I worked with, who faced the aftermath of severe injury and death every day, helped me understand. As I gathered data and stories and created impact statements and messaging to encourage donations for better injury prevention education and programming, it slowly sunk in. You better bet that I wear my seat belt today! The problems we addressed were HUGE! How could we make an impact? The nurses taught me The Starfish Story. It is with me still today! The stories began to be personal – for me – even life-changing. I was proud to raise funds on behalf of the nurses and patients whose stories I was passing along. And the need for greater awareness and education was critical. Owning the stories of the people I work with are part of what drives my passion to communicate them in a clear and compelling way. And, each organization and its members and constituents have made similar impacts on me. Sometimes, I didn’t know how much until I reached back to apply what I’d learned about research, human-animal bond, early detection of colon cancer, the value of cardiac rehab and the value of attracting and educating tomorrow’s leaders. I love teaching others to put together stories, metrics, outcomes, and urgency to share WHY donors can help to make a difference in THEIR cause and commitment. If you’d like support with this, drop a comment below about how your organization has made an impact. I would be honored to support you. https://lnkd.in/gyyDu3Ks
