There can be a misconception that being overly direct is being “rude”. That is simply not the case. As with most things, the tone and the way that you are direct will dictate the outcome and reaction on the other side. Let me demonstrate: “I need you to produce management accounts now…” End conversation Firstly, pay attention to your tone. Does it convey stress? Snappiness? Irritation? Or are you communicating it in a calm, non-emotional way? Few can argue that the statement is direct. And again, there is nothing wrong with that but… Here is what that message lacks… ❌ The WHY - The goal/context – what will those accounts be used for? Why is it urgent? ❌ A distinct and specific deadline – using terms like “now”, “next few days”, next week is vague. Also, if you’re the type of person where everything seems urgent all the time, people don’t take the word “urgent” seriously. Always specify e.g. I need this by 4pm tomorrow, so that I can… 🗣️ Ask the person to reflect back what they have understood – to check you’re on the same page. And allow the space for them to ask questions. On the last point, a lot of employees feel afraid to ask questions, because they are afraid of the reactions of their leader. It’s up to you to create enough safety and trust in your team, so that they can feel safe with you to do so. I’ll talk about this in another video. If you do this, yes, it might take a few minutes longer, but it will ultimately save you time because you’re increasing the likelihood that the person does what you need, does it correctly, and does it in the timeframe that you need it. If this resonates with you, I invite you to book a possibility call with me to explore how you can become an exceptional leader and powerful communicator. P.S. I'm taking on 2x 1-2-1 clients, to start in September. And I will also be working with companies who want coaching for their leadership team. Do you feel like you’re not being heard by decision-makers? You’ve worked for years, gained experience, and delivered results. But when it’s time to influence key decisions, you find that your voice still doesn’t carry weight? What’s holding you back? Is it the confidence to speak up? The ability to articulate your thoughts clearly? Or maybe, it’s about delivering your message in a way that moves the room? You know what? You’re not alone. 99% senior professionals I’ve talked to feel like they’ve hit a ceiling, not because of their technical expertise, but because they’re not influencing where it matters most—in the decision room! Now, let me ask you this: What would it feel like to own the room in your next big meeting? To have senior leaders turn to you for guidance, because your words carry influence? If this is what you want, my 1:1 coaching can help you unlock the communication skills to influence decision-makers at the highest level. Let’s make your voice UNMISSABLE ✨ DM me “INFLUENCE” and let’s talk about how you can get there.

𝐂𝐄𝐎: 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐞, 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐞? 𝐀𝐬 𝐚 𝐂𝐄𝐎, 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬? This newly appointed CEO reached out to discuss a communication challenge. He needed to fire an underperforming manager. In the past, they had a heated and fruitless discussion. He wanted the team to understand this firing and the subsidiary's future. His concern was communicating assertively and passing on a reassuring and positive note. As a newly appointed CEO, he resented the clash with this manager because he needed to handle the discussion better and was worried about his communication style. ▶️ During the coaching conversation, he learned that the difficult part was NOT HOW to communicate but WHAT to speak. He was insecure about communication, not because he needed more skills, but because he needed clarity around strategy and decision-making. Once he had clarified the approach, he could craft and convey a message about the change in management and the future, leveraging on a record of outstanding performance results. Even when you need to move quickly, taking time for guided enquiry is fundamental for strategic decision-making and course correction. Do you have a confidential matter you need to discuss❓ I invite you to book a consultation call 📞 https://lnkd.in/dGmJymJh To your success, Simona Spilak, MSc #executivecoaching #seniorleadership #leadershipdevelopment

📊 5 COMMON EXECUTIVE PRESENTATION MISTAKES 📈 Delivering an executive briefing is a crucial skill for any leader. However, there are common pitfalls that can undermine your message and the impact of your briefing. Here are the top 5 mistakes to avoid: *1 - LACK OF PREPARATION* Winging it is not an option. Thorough preparation ensures you know your material inside and out, allowing you to speak confidently and concisely. #understandtheassignment 🏫 *2 - READING THE SLIDE* Your audience can read the slides themselves. Instead of reading verbatim (or even making sure to touch on EVERY SINGLE BULLET), use the slides as a backdrop and add additional insights and context. #DontBoreMe 😴 *3 - GOING INTO TOO MUCH DETAIL* Execs need high level information that gets to the point quickly. Avoid diving into unnecessary details or going down rabbit holes. Your audience assumes you are the expert; don't overwhelm them with the esoteric tangents. #CoolStoryBro 🐇 🕳 *4 - USING 'I' LANGUAGE INSTEAD OF 'WE' LANGUAGE Presenting to execs is an opportunity to showcase your leadership capabilities. It's important to elevate your entire team's achievements versus your individual contributions. #SharedSuccess 🏆 *5 - VERBOSE ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS* Keep your answers concise and to the point. Long-winded responses come across as a lack of confidence and can lose your audience's attention and dilute the impact of your message. #LessIsMore 💬 * PRO TIP: PRACTICE OUT LOUD* Practicing your voiceover out loud helps you ensure it matches what's on the slide. It will also help you identify areas throughout the presentation where you may be unintentionally repeating yourself. This practice will help you refine your delivery. **WHAT OTHER MISTAKES DO YOU COMMONLY SEE DURING PRESENTATIONS TO EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP???**

An Easy and UNDERUSED Way to Reduce Anxiety and Improve Performance in Presentations When you're preparing for a presentation... How many times do you: 1.) Read notes in your head VS. 2.) Say the words out loud If you do the first one more, you're like most people. And it's one of the biggest mistakes. Not saying the words OUT LOUD. This is one of the simplest (and highest impact) changes you can start with. Say the words out loud as if you’re actually in the situation you’re preparing for. Going to be sitting at your desk when presenting? Practice sitting at your desk and speaking. Going to be standing and holding a clicker or microphone? Practice standing and holding a similar object. This is proven to be a far more effective use of your time when preparing. How do you prepare for presentations? (Btw, this applies to any situation you're nervous about speaking in) - And if you want to speak with the confidence, charisma, and clarity of the world's top leaders... (while still being your authentic self) Check out my free training: Speak Like a Confident Leader in 7 Days. Message me the word “speak” and I’ll send it over to you. - #communication #communicationskills #personaldevelopment #careers #personalgrowth #leadership #management #selfdevelopment #video #linkedinvideo

Want to be recognized as an expert? Start with how you speak. Recently, I asked my network about their top goals for this quarter, and the answer was clear: being recognized as an expert in their field. It’s a powerful goal, but one that doesn’t happen overnight. In the next 3 days, I’ll be providing simple yet effective tips that you can build on. Let’s dive into the first step—speaking with clarity and confidence. Being seen as a leader begins with how you present yourself in conversations and meetings. When you communicate your ideas clearly and confidently in meetings, team discussions, and client interactions, people start to see you as someone who knows their craft. Focus on articulating key points without jargon, using a calm, steady tone that commands attention. Clarity breeds confidence in others—and the more people trust you, the more they’ll see you as a leader. Here’s a simple action you can try today: When speaking —whether it’s in a meeting or a one-on-one—choose one key point you want to communicate and focus on delivering it clearly. Slow down, use a calm tone, and avoid jargon. Even a short, powerful point made with intention can elevate how others perceive you. Drop me a 👍 if you’re willing to try this out. #LeadWithClarity #LeadershipCommunication

Are you a leader who struggles with nervousness when leading meetings, giving presentations, or addressing the public? In this video, I share three essential strategies using the Kaizen method—small incremental improvements—to help you overcome fear and become a more effective leader and communicator. 1️⃣ Small Doses of Consistent Practice: Set aside 10-15 minutes a day to practice speaking in front of a mirror or by recording yourself. This helps you internalize the skills necessary to master this communication medium and make it instinctual. 2️⃣ Request Candid Feedback from Mentors and Colleagues: Ask a trusted colleague or mentor to give you constructive feedback on your speeches. Request a run-through and ask for one thing you did well and one thing you could improve upon. 3️⃣ Embrace Incremental Challenges: Intentionally increase the complexity of the situations you put yourself in regarding public speaking and presentations. If you're used to speaking in front of your team where it’s comfortable, seek opportunities to address another team you don’t know at a departmental meeting or an event outside of work. These strategies will help boost your skills and confidence over time, making you a highly capable leadership communicator.
