Heidelberg Materials have recently acquired CARVER SAND & GRAVEL LLC to utilize their strong foundations in the Sand and Gravel industry within New York. Something that will be mutually beneficial for both companies moving forward. The recent advancements of Heidelberg Materials North America within the materials industry has had a global impact for the Heidelberg Organization, who's second quarter in 2024, showed a 5% increase in earnings, heavily due to the US divisions outstanding start to the year. Some key advancements within the construction industry in general, include decarbonization and reducing the carbon footprint released through the production of these materials. This can be seen in the forefront of Heidelberg's advancements, increasing sustainable product revenue in the Cement business unit by 43% while reducing net CO2 emissions by 2%. My favorite part of what I do at Nihot Recycling Technology B.V. is seeing the overlap between all the industries in which we do business. Today I am at the Ash Grove Cement Company cement kiln in Seattle talking about alternative fuels (RDF) as a substitute to fossil fuels. Nihot has hundreds of installations (screening and windshifting) in the RDF space. Cement kilns are now investigating cleaned MRF glass that has been ground finely as a pozzolan for their Portland cement products, making a more green cement. Nihot has countless installations cleaning MRF glass for secondary processing. Then there is the metal recycling space. I think the Ash Grove Seattle preheater tower speaks for itself. What percentage of that structure is recycled steel? You better believe it’s quite high. Concrete recycling - We take a close look - SGC technology put to the test!   On behalf of a potential customer, we took a close look at SGC technology in use for the production of recycled concrete aggregates.   In our production hall, our "small" CST 500 mobile plant was converted into a test stand, equipped with an extraction system and a total of 60 tons of material was processed. Three batches of 20 tons of impact-crushed recycled concrete with different grain fractions (0-50mm) and material compositions were crushed to 0-16mm and then fractionated. Different settings, such as the width of the crushing gap, were varied in order to investigate their influence on the crushing result. Not only the customer, but also we ourselves were delighted with the crushing result. A coarse-grained granulate with only a slight increase in the fine and sand content. Optimum exposure of foreign bodies and crushing of soft fractions into the sand fraction.   Aggregates produced using SGC technology are ideal for use in recycling concrete. The grading curve produced is very close to the ideal for concrete aggregates, so that sand even has to be added in some cases. The granulate also has excellent static properties.   We were also surprised by the performance of our CST 500, the first machine ever built by Crush + Size. The installed SGC 650-11 is a special size by today's standards and delivered a throughput of over 150 t/h at peak times.   The SGC is a double roller crusher with a rollers specifically designed for the gentle production of smaller fractions.
